Yeah, but in this gen both Killzone 2 (better graphics) and Gears (better graphics and gameplay) make Halo look that much older. Throw in the weak story mode of Halo 3 and you have the beginning of the end of Halo. And it doesn't matter what is in the Halo books because from a gaming standpoint what mattered was Cortana and Master Chief.

Not these new guys they are throwing in to replace Master Chief and Cortana to try to extend the series past its expiration date. We all know how replacing Mulder and Scully on the X-Files and the original Duke Boys on The Dukes of Hazard turned out for those respective franchises.

Yes its so weak that its selling better than Gears 2 AND Killzone 2 on a weekly basis despite being a year older right? You'd think by now gamers would realize that it sucks right?

How has the latest one Halo Wars been doing?

Halo 3 and Halo Wars have nothing in common except universe.  It's like comparing Super Mario Galaxy with Mario Super Strikers.

Well, you or someone else was trying to imply that games without Master Chief and Cortana would sell just as well as the first three Halos due to the strength of the Halo universe.  I think Halo Wars sales implies that that might not be the case.  I would be very surprised if ODST (if it costs $60.00 at launch) outsells Modern Warfare 2 on 360.

LOL you're comparing a RTS with FPS on consoles? Which planet are you on? Its actually broadening the franchise btw, and is currently the highest selling console RTS ever by a LONG mile, this does nothing but prove the strength of the Halo brand.

This is coming from somone who owns and game primarily on a PS3 and who couldn't give a stuffing about the Halo games in general: stop the bs.

I had both Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2. And, I'm not speaking as a PS3 fan here. I am looking at Halo from the perspective of someone whom has a long history of observing trends in enternainment media and even degrees related to media studies and Halo is losing its thunder.

Can you elaborate on your finding on the decline of the Halo brand?

Lets have a look at the fact:

Last Halo FPS is the highest selling ever in the franchise

Halo branded RTS becomes the highest selling RTS in console history

It continues to sell more copy per week than both Gears 2 and Killzone 2; two games you claim are 'superior' to Halo 3

Microsoft has just announced Reach without ODST even being released, its easily expected to be the top selling exclusive for the 360 this holiday with the only game that has a chance against it being Modern Warfare 2 and Forza 3, proving that they still believe the franchise is marketable at a lucrative level; it is merely an expansion!! ODST is like GT5P; not a complete game!

Halo ALWAYS rank as one of the top 5 games played for Live on a weekly basis

Where is the logic?

This is VGChartz only bad things apply to Microsoft since they are evil.  (Oh wait I am doing it wrong it's M$).

Sony got exclusive games, fanboys go wow that's so cool FF14 and Agent.  If it was Microsoft then it's moneyhat.  The mere thought that the new MGS Raiden might be exclusive send some into hissy fit saying it's doesn't count as MGS game or Konami and Kojima had sold out.  Those two games were probably result of the change by Sony with their recent initiative (moneyhat but that term only apply to MS).

As for Wii well, that console is full of remake.  Even GameCube game got repackage into Wii games....

Shut up.

Er... good one.

Tired of Halo...ROFLMAO...but not tired of Snake, Link and Zelda, or Mario...wtf...

The problem with Halo is that the game is mainly an FPS. Games like this only have so many successors before they are retired. Mario lasts long because he is a platformer and he is culturally etched into the hearts of children and adults who grew up with him 20+ years ago. The Halo war cannot go on forever. God of War will die with the third game and that makes perfect sense. Microsoft better think of a successor and fast, because you can only too so much with Master Chief and the Halo universe. The only reason Microsoft hasn't let it go is because it is the highest grossing title. If the only way i'll agree to the Halo universe continuing is if a new threat came to earth. Nintendo created characters that forever will be loved by adults and children alike and in their worlds there is always another battle. Mario never gets old....we do.

Well Mario got old for me a long time ago.  Not to mention every Mario (platformers) tells the same basic story it is just the obstacles have been changed.  The story line is nearly always princess gets captured and Mario comes to the rescue.  Sorry but in reality Mario games are remakes not sequels.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

360 and the words "Original Exclusives" don't go together.

Ahem...please give Microsoft a while to aquire a shitload of studios like Sony. They are doing very well despite having a lot less studios under their control.

That's their own fault. They had BioWare, they had Pandemic, they had Bizzare.....they sold them though. I can't "give them time" to acquire studios when all they do is sell them off

Uh... they never owned any of those studios. If you're going to try to find justifications for your pathological M$ hatred, at least make sure the shit you're spewing has some factual basis, k?

Alan Wake looked very poor in comparison to the most recent videos for Heavy Rain, Uncharted 2, Brutal Legend, God of War 3, Assassin's Creed 2, Splinter Cell Conviction, The Last Guardian, The Other M, The Saboteur, Resident Evil Dark Chronicles. It is very far down the list of the most exciting action adventure game at E3. And what is it doing tell its story in different episodes? Trying to emulate the last Alone in the Dark?

I can tell you're going to be very dissapointed on how high up Alan Wake is on that list, but you'll just have to wait I guess.  The rest of us that watched that video saw a game that outshined many of the ones you mentioned above.

I don't think you understand. When a game sells 5 million, it's doing great, when it's sequel sells 8m, it's doing ok. When the 3rd sells 10m, that's it, it's clearly out of steam.

The last Halo sold so many copies because it was only one of two reasons that people bought the system.  However, since that time many better games have come to the 360 including the likes of further games in the Gears series, Fallout 3, Bioshock, and Modern Warfare. Superior games reduce the importance of games in an  older series that aren't considered to be as good.

Then Halo 3 was advertised as being the final Halo game.  Usually when producers cave in to the demands of the fans and give more installments in such cases franchises tend to go into a decline.

Modern Warfare 2 (which isn't exclusive) should easily have better sales on 360 than Halo:  ODST as the Call of Duty games are now considered to be better and more popular games than the post Halo 3 Halo games.

Prologue wasn't an expansion.  It was a demo.  Neither expansions or demos tend to sell as well as original products.

Even Mario went through a few rough years there.  And as not being part of any real coherent story he had a much easier time making a comeback than a game in a series that is beginning to veer so far off its already established path which was Master Chief and Cortana.
