oh hai guiz we is relesing new ps3 that is small and cheap in 4 months, but continue to buy the fat expensive ps3s till we run out of stock! k?

They did do it to the PSP, though, which is making $$$ for them. Why wouldn't they do it to the PS3 which is actually losing $$$ for Sony.

PSP3000 is still going to be on the market, along with PSPGo. If a slim PS3 was introduced, I don't see them keeping the PS3phat on shelves.

They are keeping the 3000 model 'cause PSPGo is priced at $250. If the slim is released for $450 then the phat ones would be a good alternative.

well they better keep the 3000 model

PSP GO sucks & I hate the direction its going in (don't ban me.....I feel DD will kill the industry + teens can't buy games off credit cards)

Well in true Playstation tradition it will get one just depends on when the PSone released 6 yrs after the PS1 and PS2 slim 4 years after the PS2 Phat.

Releasing a slim version is going to cut costs for them, so why would they increase the price?

To make even more $$$? Btw, didn't every slim iteration from either Sony or Nintendo release at or above the older phat price? Expecting a price cut and a slim model at the same time is too optimistic.

Definitely not...most rumors pointed towards a fall release.  Why the hell would they announce it at the beginning of June if they weren't going to deliver it until the fall?  If they did that, nobody would bother buying a ps3 right now...they'd wait for the less expensive, slimmer version in the fall.

So, expect an announcement only a week or two before it actually releases.  Hopefully late September or early October.

lol...where do you live?  A lot of teens can buy games off credit cards..kids can get credit earlier than you think.  Above that, *almost* every kid of every income level has people around them, whether it be family or friends of family, who will help them buy things if they have the money for it.  And if you're one of the few who don't have people around that'll help, that really sucks for you.  I'd try and find out why no one around cares to help you rather than what video game I can get next.

And whats wrong with DD?  Theres free access points everywhere...libraries, mcdonalds, coffee shops; obviously you have access if you're viewing this site.  Might as well test out the medium while file sizes are relatively small for PSP games before the 'inevitable future' everyone calls for where you're receiving gigs upon gigs of data through DD.

I don't see it as a problem for the psp at all, tho there will be an 'adoption rate'.

Rumors never die...

someone said the rumor is true but it was not going to be reveled at E3

I'm not suggesting that they have a price cut, In fact I think they'll stay at the $399.99 price point. With the slim model being released, they'll make a savings on component costs, so they'll make less of a loss (or more likely a profit) at the current price. Having a price cut would negate the benefits of making a slim PS3.

For Sony, keeping a phat PS3 and slim PS3 doesn't make sense: the phat PS3 is losing them money, and the cost of making the slim won't decrease as quickly, since they have to buy 2 different kinds of components. Keeping 2 PSP lines, however, does make sense. The PSP-3000 is already making them a profit, and with its rather large price, the PSPGo should make a profit (if it's not, then I have no idea what Sony is thinking). The production of both PSP lines will not cost Sony any money, whereas the production of the phat PS3 will.
