I wonder how effective this will be in getting some of the Wii´s audience, given it´ll be introduced so late in the 360´s shelf life.

Yes it was, but it was also expected.
Many of these journalists complained about the Wii gameplay, saying "Booo! I don't like moving my arm! All this Wiimote thing is just 'waggle waggle waggle' and I don't want to move around when playing games!" and etc.
Now their favorite FPS machine is taking it a step forward and making people move their entire body. Cheering for that would just make them look like hypocrites.
I don't think the "next XBox" is coming for a long time.
This type of thing can extend the 360's lifespan by 5 years easily. They did say this will come with future XBox 360's and with the userbase only at 30 million right now, there is a lot of room for growth.
Forget "Nextbox" ... MS can just release a 360 Slim + Natal next year together.
nightsurge said: Seriously, people... this is not meant to be a device for controlling FPS type games... but who knows, they have a wide and open future where they could make it compatible. This is directly targeting the Wii, casuals, and the 60% of families in the US alone that do not own a console. As they stated, the controller is a barrier because it is a piece of technology that can potentially turn off many individuals. Pushing buttons to get actions on screen is not always the easiest thing to get used to. What this does is remove the need for a controller so that everyone can participate in it's games. All you need is your life experience and the ability to move. This is about bringing in the people who don't even have a Wii because the notion of a controller at all is intimidating to them. If you think these people don't exist, you are naive and are clouded by the fact that you do know how to game on a controller. You grew up with this and learned on this, but for many many more that is not the case. I can't say if I will buy it just yet as they don't have many details released, but from the games they did show, and from the potential I can see for this device, I am definitely interested!
the only thing that I can see it being really cool to use for is, well, for the GUI on the 360, move your hand with a pointer tracker like a mouse and voice activate commands. very intuitive for the menus, but for games, would be some hard design choices for sure, it's not exactly a new concept no matter how good the tech is, my hype lvl for this thing is just wayyyyy too low.

So people are passing judgement and making up prices for a device with which little detail is known? Glad to we have so many people who can see the future. Anyone got a website so I can learn how too?
While technically it seem nice I don't see many games actually making good use out of it...
bardicverse said: 1 - As mentioned before, too expensive. People without a console would still pick up a Wii instead. 2 - We still have yet to see how this would function with a standard game, like Halo. Do you point your hand like a gun and say BANG to shoot? 3 - It's really more of an eyetoy type function than a truly functional control system. What happens when you need to run? Backpeddle? Strafe? Overall, it will only apply to select few games, not draw in the casual crowd its aimed at, and be ignored by the "core game" developers.
This, pretty much.
It looks exciting if you analyze from a technical perspective only... in practice, it's very doubtful they'd get many kinds of games to work well with this.
My Mario Kart Wii friend code: 2707-1866-0957
Basically it made me think of those Concept Cars GM, Ford and Toyota show every few year and that never really make it to production..

You not owning a 360 instantly sets off alarms that your making stuff up.
Lostplanet22 said: Yeah it is amazing and looks way better than the Wii remote. I am only not fan of motion controls but it is funny to see MS making montion control stuff more amazing than on the wii :).
they are entirely different, Wiimote is meant to be for everything for gaming by it's console design, and it does exactly that, natal, not so much, I'm actually kind disappointed tbh.
