Oh wow, this argument again?

Different people are going to have different value metrics by which they will measure a system's library. Metacritic is less than meaningless.

There are many metrics by which the Wii's current library is already better than the PS2's entire library during its entire lifetime up to now.

I'm a JRPG whore so if Wii can catch up to PS2 lvl on that, then it's already a win, but of course there are better games in certain genres that are already better on the Wii than the PS2, and this gen isn't even over yet.

Yes, see, that's perfectly fair. For a JRPG nut, the Wii is probably not going to beat out the PS2 - though the DS might.

DS already kicks PS2's ass on that front lol.

Soriku, the dood doesn't have a Wii, there is no reason he'd know the good games on the system =P

I'm not so sure about that. Don't get me wrong, I love my DS and its wealth of RPGs, but the PS2 simply has more great, new RPGs.

Many of the DS' great RPGs are remakes. Again, don't get me wrong, I love them - FF IV DS is still my favourite game this generation and there are plenty of great, new RPGs too. But it does not have quite as many quality, new ones as the PS2 yet. At least, I don't believe so. Regardless, it's debatable.

For me, the PS2 especially outshines the DS in terms of SRPGs and ARPGs.

you sure? I'm playing KH on DS right now and I'm looking at Knights of Nightmare very closely. I've also played games never released outside of Japan and they are just amazingly good. if you look at the quality of something you can get in English like A2, Disgaea, LA2, FE, VP:CP and BD, these are already just as good if not better than the library on PS2. also don't forget the only worthwhile ARPGs on the PS2 were things like KH, and some BG and a lot of them were not as good. not to mention a lot of the DS games have WiFi support and even voice chat, Nintendo created something pretty advance back 5 years ago feature-wise even though the 3D capability isn't as high as something like the PSP, and the quality of software really shows just how many good games are on it.

Hey I wouldn't count the wii out just yet on that front either. I'd say the wii has the best upcoming JRPGs on any console. Granted it won't have any Final Fantasies but Dragon Quest X, Tales of Graces, The Crystal Bearers and the various small JRPGs should start some kind of a trend.

"Pier was a chef, a gifted and respected chef who made millions selling his dishes to the residents of New York City and Boston, he even had a famous jingle playing in those cities that everyone knew by heart. He also had a restaurant in Los Angeles, but not expecting LA to have such a massive population he only used his name on that restaurant and left it to his least capable and cheapest chefs. While his New York restaurant sold kobe beef for $100 and his Boston restaurant sold lobster for $50, his LA restaurant sold cheap hotdogs for $30. Initially these hot dogs sold fairly well because residents of los angeles were starving for good food and hoped that the famous name would denote a high quality, but most were disappointed with what they ate. Seeing the success of his cheap hot dogs in LA, Pier thought "why bother giving Los Angeles quality meats when I can oversell them on cheap hotdogs forever, and since I don't care about the product anyways, why bother advertising them? So Pier continued to only sell cheap hotdogs in LA and was surprised to see that they no longer sold. Pier's conclusion? Residents of Los Angeles don't like food."

"The so-called "hardcore" gamer is a marketing brainwashed, innovation shunting, self-righteous idiot who pays videogame makers far too much money than what is delivered."

Why are we still arguing this thing? We comparing a console that had almost every game made go to it to another console that sees the big third party games go to the competition.

GAmes on the wii could be possible on the ps2 with something like the eyetoy or peripherals like that. I dont see which genre the wii can offer so much more than the ps2, and even if it did, the ps2 just wins in the other genres.

Also, I dont know if the ds is better in the RPG department, sure it has a lot, but I doubt there are some as great as the main FFs or things like the main KH(CoM is clearly worse imo than the ps2 counterparts), I could see why people would prefer the ds, but the feeling I had with RPGs on the ps2 I couldnt have felt it on the ds.

Metrics of quality.

Nintendo counts for a lot to many people.

Whoa, slow down. I'd have preferred to steer clear of a list war, but since one has been started already...

In terms of quality SRPGs, the PS2 has: Disgaea 1, Disgaea 2, La Pucelle Tactics, Phantom Brave, Eternal Poison, Stella Deus, Gladius, Makai Kingdom, Growslanser, Arc the Lad: TotS, Soul Nomad, Suikoden Tactics and I'm sure I've missed a few more. That's a stellar amount of quality SRPGs.

I thought there were plenty more quality ARPGs than just KH I and II and Baldur's Gate. Dark Cloud 1 and, especially, 2 were great, Champions of Norrath was an awesome multiplayer dungeon crawl, SO3 was good for the most part, X-Men Legends I and II, Ys: Ark of Napishtism, The Bard's Tale and .Hack 1 - 4 (Haven't played but have heard good things).

As I mentioned eariler, not to take away anything from the DS, as its RPG lineup is amazing, but I don't think it's quite up to snuff with the PS2.

I'm glad you mentioned Valkyrie Profile. I've been meaning to get it for a while, I think I may trade in Cross Edge to get it.
