This is a fan remake (in progress) of Metroid II: Return of Samus by DoctorM64 (for Windows). As you can see from the video and demo, it's very professionally done. The graphics are partly custom and partly ripped from GBA Metroids, but the sound is originally composed by the developer. I love the Tunnel theme remix in the video.

The remake will mostly follow the original (see video for area comparisions) with updated graphics, sound and mechanics, but my impression is that he's adding some custom content and making it a little less linear than the original for the exploring types.

It's looking very good, and may be a good substitute for the recent lack of 2D Metroids.

The nostalgia I got from that video is off of the chartz! Metroid 2 was my first Metroid game, and I want to play this fan made game so bad right now!! It looks amazing!!

It's amazing what these guys can to. Doesn't stop this thing from hurting my eyes though, but even that won't stop me from playing it if given the chance. I love anything to do with this game.

Yes, Windows. Though I've e-mailed him about a program that would compile it for Linux, Mac, etc. and he hasn't replied yet.

Looks like it'll be somewhat easier, since Samus seems smaller compared to the environments.

Too bad that Nintendo (or Retro) wasn't making this. I'd love to play this on a console.

I never played Metroid II, but it looks... awkward. This is proportioned the same as Fusion and Zero Mission, which I love.

Holy shit, that looks awesome. Metroid 2 is a very under rated metroid, and that looks sweet. I was skeptical at the beginning of the video, but when the music kicked in to that old them I was on board all the way. Nintendo should've been the one to do this, but I'm glad somebody is picking up their slack.
