This guy needs to take a good look at the wii library through the years and he will see why so many people are turning away.

I'll put it in terms he can understand:

The "casuals" just don't understand real gaming. The "casuals" are content playing 20 year old games on the VC (as you are, apparently), and not very concerned about titles coming out this day and age. The wii sells so much because motion sensing is the cool tech right now. And honestly there will always be a cool slice of the video game market for it. I have a feeling the "casuals" want the same old franchises over and over and over. The "hardcore" just don't get the satisfaction of playing "game party" "mario party" "we party" "redneck jubilee" "fun jobs" "Carnival games" and "crayola adventures" either.
Instead we get games that use a stupid CONTROLLER instead of an almost no screen lag remote.
Darn.

what? ^^;;;; gaming hasn't changed as much as you think it has my friend, haven't you realized by now that innovation is almost non existant because of devs unable to take risks on HD games and all these games that seem zomg so good are just old concepts from 10 or even 20 years ago and most have been done already? cover system is just one way to make up for the crappy dual analog controls that's been plaguing the Action Shooter genre on consoles that's been done on rail shooters before as well if you want to bring that up, for every "new" innovation is just added features from the past so far. hell, you can even argue that the wiimote is an unstable mouse for FPS too, which is nothing new, but it's still better than traditional controls on consoles.

Oh I love the comparison about Gamecube and Wii. Main criticism of the Gamecube was how it didn't do what the Wii does now. Funny thing is, no one ever gave credit to how good of a console the GC was until AFTER the Wii came out. Got to love hypocrities eh.

Pretty good write-up of once again pissing off the "justified haters" by exposing their obvious fallacies. I love it.

Amen to that.

@Savior: I like that term you use "hardly core" suits alot of self proclaimed "hardcore" gamers well.

On another note. Some folks just outright say Malstrom is wrong or right without much else, depending on which side of the fence you're on when it comes to his articles and perspective. But I haven't seen anyone really challenge his points with contradicting points of their own. NoName, I'm calling you out because I'd love also to read your opinion on such a topic, how's that for flattery?

I wouldn't call Malstrom a fanboy as much as he is very much into business strategies and disruption. I find him informative and entertaining and he provides an alternative to the mainstream gaming journalists who often times miss the points he brings to light.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

Nintendo deserves undying hate for all of the damage that they have done to gaming over the years. First, they build a console around the worst primary input device of all time, the d-pad. Then they popularized the worst genre of all time, platformers, which stifled gaming for a decade. Don't get me started on the abortions that were the gameboy and the DS. The jury is still out on whether casual influx from the craptastic Wii will ultimately hurt or help, although it is leaning more towards hurt.

Since when is stating an honest, long standing (20yrs+), deeply held opinion trolling, especially in a topic talking about Nintendo hatred?  If anything, I practiced quite a bit of restraint.

The only saving grace of your post. I'm almost disappointed in you showing restraint.

Wow, so much hatred for a guy and his analysis of a situation, and yet not a single proper retort as to how the person is wrong...of course, what am I expecting?

This is the internet...

Explanation of sig:

You actually hold an 'undying hate' towards a simple company? That's a mighty, strong and sad opinion! What did Nintendo do all those years: provide fun entertainment for other people, though apparently not you. It's just a company, like any other. Your attitude doesn't seem very mature. Why waste your time and thoughts on this? Get over it.

Do you hate all consoles then, since most of them are copied of Nintendo designs?

This happens whenever Malstrom get's posted. It shows he has a good point.

"Pier was a chef, a gifted and respected chef who made millions selling his dishes to the residents of New York City and Boston, he even had a famous jingle playing in those cities that everyone knew by heart. He also had a restaurant in Los Angeles, but not expecting LA to have such a massive population he only used his name on that restaurant and left it to his least capable and cheapest chefs. While his New York restaurant sold kobe beef for $100 and his Boston restaurant sold lobster for $50, his LA restaurant sold cheap hotdogs for $30. Initially these hot dogs sold fairly well because residents of los angeles were starving for good food and hoped that the famous name would denote a high quality, but most were disappointed with what they ate. Seeing the success of his cheap hot dogs in LA, Pier thought "why bother giving Los Angeles quality meats when I can oversell them on cheap hotdogs forever, and since I don't care about the product anyways, why bother advertising them? So Pier continued to only sell cheap hotdogs in LA and was surprised to see that they no longer sold. Pier's conclusion? Residents of Los Angeles don't like food."

"The so-called "hardcore" gamer is a marketing brainwashed, innovation shunting, self-righteous idiot who pays videogame makers far too much money than what is delivered."
