Use compressed air and a vacuum. That is your safest and best bet for cleaning it out without damaging it.

My PS3 is lying down, as you can see http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=74273 but I really don't think it makes much of a difference from a cooling standpoint so long as you keep it well ventilated.

Nord, On your pic you see that DVD on the left to the PS3? Lets say my PS3 was there, Would that be ''ventilated''?

I would argue no but you should really just stick your hand near the intake vents and feel if the air is room temperature or hotter. Obviously you want room temperature air being sucked into the PS3.

While facing the PS3, the intake vents are on the right, and the output vents are on the back. There is a higher potential for hot air to get trapped in there and taken back into the PS3. I've placed my hand on the left side of my PS3 and it gets fairly warm in there. With my setup, the right side is open and the PS3 takes in fresh air all the time so it brings in cooler air.

while larger surface area exposed to open air does increase heat dissipation, I don't think you get any benefit with the PS3. The PS3 doesn't have cooling fins, so you don't have a lot of surface area. Also the intake vent would now be on the top pulling air down, which is fighting the direction the hot air wants to go which is up.

which is better in the end? I can't difinitively say without sticking a thermometer in the PS3 and have it run in each position.

When I lay my hand on its right side its really hot def not room temprature, But I cant change that :/ Its like this(Pic taken by crappy phone lol):

well, warm air won't kill it, but room temperature is optimal. You have enough potential for air flow though so you should be good, as I thought it was a small space like the one I have.

I can't tell the depth, but it looks like if you really want to cool it down more, you could just move it to the middle shelf where your controllers are (or what look to be controllers) and the hot air could go right out the back. However, if that stand is right up against the wall then it won't make much of a difference compared to where it is now. If you have a good 10cm then that would be more than enough room for the air to escape easily. It is that wall in the back that is trapping the air and bringing it back around to the intakes.

Maybe I can destroy that wall XD

the PS3 does not fit at that area where the controllers are :p. Okay thanks Ill do my best to destroy the wall XD.

I take it to my parent's house where they have an air compressor.
