While facing the PS3, the intake vents are on the right, and the output vents are on the back. There is a higher potential for hot air to get trapped in there and taken back into the PS3. I've placed my hand on the left side of my PS3 and it gets fairly warm in there. With my setup, the right side is open and the PS3 takes in fresh air all the time so it brings in cooler air. @scoobes while larger surface area exposed to open air does increase heat dissipation, I don't think you get any benefit with the PS3. The PS3 doesn't have cooling fins, so you don't have a lot of surface area. Also the intake vent would now be on the top pulling air down, which is fighting the direction the hot air wants to go which is up. which is better in the end? I can't difinitively say without sticking a thermometer in the PS3 and have it run in each position. |
When I lay my hand on its right side its really hot def not room temprature, But I cant change that :/ Its like this(Pic taken by crappy phone lol):
