Forums - Nintendo - Vanillaware confirms another 2d game in the works

sweet, hope it's for wii. Muramasa did pretty well in Japan so I hope they stay on the platform.

"Pier was a chef, a gifted and respected chef who made millions selling his dishes to the residents of New York City and Boston, he even had a famous jingle playing in those cities that everyone knew by heart. He also had a restaurant in Los Angeles, but not expecting LA to have such a massive population he only used his name on that restaurant and left it to his least capable and cheapest chefs. While his New York restaurant sold kobe beef for $100 and his Boston restaurant sold lobster for $50, his LA restaurant sold cheap hotdogs for $30. Initially these hot dogs sold fairly well because residents of los angeles were starving for good food and hoped that the famous name would denote a high quality, but most were disappointed with what they ate. Seeing the success of his cheap hot dogs in LA, Pier thought "why bother giving Los Angeles quality meats when I can oversell them on cheap hotdogs forever, and since I don't care about the product anyways, why bother advertising them? So Pier continued to only sell cheap hotdogs in LA and was surprised to see that they no longer sold. Pier's conclusion? Residents of Los Angeles don't like food."

"The so-called "hardcore" gamer is a marketing brainwashed, innovation shunting, self-righteous idiot who pays videogame makers far too much money than what is delivered."

Hmm, I would love to have another 2D game from them.

I do hope they mix things up a bit.

@ griffin

Let's no make this about sales, but it didn't do very well at all.

It sold about half of what odin sphere did. I can see it at least getting close to Odin Sphere's sales which isn't bad at all, but like you said neither sold very well. I don't think they have much room to sell more than what they have though.

Slowly but surely it's reaching the expected mark (56k?) in Japan so it'll make them pretty happy. More than half of Odin Sphere would be pretty  good. It'll still be like their 2nd most successful game. But these type of games won't sell that much.

Well, if it can't outsell the PS2 game, why make another Wii exclusive. It would make more sense to do a Wii/PSP or a Wii/PS2 game.

And you're right about 56k being the expectation for this quarter. Although, I will say that their expectations are pretty low.

Because they...don't want to? I mean a lot of iterations last gen sold better than this gen on other systems too but that's not happening.

Of course, but that's why we've seen things from Koei and the like. The situation is also a bit different where it's a lot easier to make a PS2/Wii title rather than a PS3/PS2 title or a 360/PS2 title.

"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Go Vanillaware!!! I love you.

hahaha, i won't forget this everytime you ask why developers does not develop a game for the wii

I wish they'd make a PSN/XBLA game. It'd look phenomenal @_@

Great :D
