Doom 1, Half-Life 2, and Halo. But choosing 1, it'd be Doom. ^ I agree, compared to the FPS games of the past, this gen has nothing.

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

Yes i did play it infact i own it but like i said it was a very average FPS. No innovation whatsoever. The graphics are the only praiseworthy thing about that game. The question is... Did you play Crisis?
Long Live SHIO!

This.
Followed closely by Goldeneye and Perfect Dark.
You tools can keep all your "serious" shooters, I want robot fish, paintball modes, big head modes and happy slapping.

Unreal ,Goldeneye, Operation Flashpoint, Hidden And Dangerous (Not really a FPS' but an awesome game) - i enjoyed this most.
Duke Nukem 3D - Great interactivity, personality, groundbreaking for it's time. The most FUN I've ever had with an FPS.
Hail to the King Baby!

Single Player: Half-Life 2 PC or, even though it's more action adventure, Prime 3 because of the control scheme. Online Play: TF2 PC then L4D PC so far, nothing even comes close.
Overall best for me(counting SP and MP): Quake 1 followed by Half Life 1, both PC versions, best Mod communities I have ever experienced even to this day(outside of the Doom ones) making the replay values endless back in the days no matter SP or MP.
edit: I also picked HL2 PC because you can do this on PC, Fakefactory ftw.

Never played Crysis. I've heard it all graphics, not that good. Can't say from experience though.
For my pick I'd say Call of Duty 4. It helped rejuvenate online gaming. It was getting kind of boring until this little title showed up on the scene.
