CARLSBAD, Calif.--As D: All Things Digital wrapped up Thursday, I got a quick chance to play around with the Zune HD that Microsoft plans to ship this fall.
The software maker announced plans for the product on Tuesday and released a photo, but this is a product I was curious to see firsthand.
The most striking feature from my brief look was the device's striking organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display.
I got a chance to see most of the features, but not the one I am most curious to see--the Internet browser. I'm told it's based on Internet Explorer 6, as is the Windows Mobile browser, but the real question is whether Microsoft has made the interface better than that on its phones.
I'm also curious what Apple does with the iPod Touch in time for this fall. If they add a camera and a bunch of new goodies, it could give the Zune's HD Radio and other features a run for their money.
Anyway, without further ado, here's a quick video look at the Zune HD. (Sorry, the video trails off a bit at the end, but hopefully you get the idea.)
If this comes with full xbla support its going to really blend the line between a media device and a game console. Considering the fact that I have never owned an ipod or zune if this does come with things like netflix and xbla support I would definitely buy it in a second.
The definitive evidence that video games turn people into mass murderers

Im with you. XBLA support would be HUGE! and would market this device as both a game device and an MP3 player! Everyone wins the developers of the games would have another platform to release on and M$ would assure itself of more sales

I doubt their will be xbla support, unless a magic controller slides out.
I'm still curious overall about the gaming potential the Zune HD has. If it has xbox 360 compatability. It's easy to assume that there will be games for it, but what kind of games we're looking at? I'm thinking mostly arcade titles. Hopefully it'll be a boon for both the Zune and Xbox.

This would be nothing short of EPIC!!! Transferring XBLA from ur 360 to ur Zune HD (think PS3 and PSP) i mean that would allow for a portable version of halo or something and we could kill eachother on the go!!!
But in all seriousness i doubt the device will be advanced enough to render origional xbox games in their full detail. As for XBLA games it could definatly be possible but only if there is an intuitive touch screen control layout or an optional physical controller thingy. Im sure at the very least that developers will be able to make games for this device. Maybe even the same ones that will be coming out on the console.
