Forums - Sony - Could the True Blue Megaton be GTA5, PS3 exclusive?

@ Munkeh111 I didnt like San Andreas as much as i did Vice City. GTA:SA didnt have a story to pull me in, it was just GTA like missions (wierd and fun.. like when you helped that hippie burn his pot etc), and the map was waaaay to big. It became like FarCry. Drive 100 miles and kill that guy, go back and do it again. And the scenery was plain.

The fun parts of the game was riding the BMX, some cool missions and the secret Porno exploit thingy. But it didnt anything like what Vice City did imo. Vice City had a cool story and the feel of the game and the city around you was epic. Thats where Rockstar hit its peak with the GTA series imo.

PS. I really was hyped for IV. The first two city areas was great, the third not so much. The sidemissions and the hidden packages was wack. The story was okay, but the missions with the Irish family was awesome. Still.. not enough for me to say it was a great game. Id give IV a 8/10

Is this thread in response to 1up.com's "source" which claimed that Sony had a "megaton" announcement but didn't give any clue what-so-ever and has no real evidence to back up the claim?

If so then........ L I A F

Although, everyone is going to say that every announcement is "megaton" so whatever. We only have a few more days to wait and all will be seen.

Okay I'll correct you. You're wrong

So TAke 2 just decided to take one for the team, and they signed a contract for absolutly free?

Come on man, thats so unrealistic.  Contracts cost money...everybody knows that.

So how i'm i wrong?

not necessarily

Show me a videogame contract that was free??

only after you show me a video game contract

Why the fuck can't i paste anything??  It says the browser doesn't support pasting.  WTF??

But anyway go to google and type in video game contract.  And the first thing that comes up is the EA/NFL contract.

Also why are you being so childish?  You and i both know that if a game like GTA was in a contract, that said contract would cost moneys....to say otherwise is just ridiculous.

HVS' undying love for Wii didn't cost Nintendo anything.

@OP
I doubt that Sony had any LONG term contract with Rockstar. If they did it probably ended at GTA VC or SA.

ALso considering that GTA4 is making the company more money on the 360 due to DLC. Rockstar would have to be insane to make it PS3 exclusive. I know what you would like. To feel special that one of your favorite games is on your favorite system so that you can ridicule people who bought the 360, but in the end you should appreciate that come GTA5 you will probably also get an even better game. Since it's made far much more money on both system total than it could have made on just one.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

^ $175 000 000 is (about) what Take2 made on the 360 version of GTA IV (revenue).

If they would forgo a 360 version of GTA V that is how much they'd lose. So any offer to make it exclusive must be up to or exceeding the that value for Take 2.

I don't think so. I'm not saying GTA5 will be PS3 exclusive. I don't think that will happen. But, Rockstar would not lose that much money, if any at all. A lot of people who bought this game own a PS3 and 360. Most of them purchased the 360 version due to the fact it has exclusive add-ons. Also, there were many PS3 owners such as myself and about 70% of my PSN friend list who did not buy this game because it wasn't up to PS3 standards at it's release. If Rockstar focused solely on one version of the game, they could make a game that would rival anything on the market today.

That being said, I still don't think Rockstar would do that seeing how the 17 million owners of San Andreas are now split on to two separate consoles. I also don't see Rockstar taking another exclusive deal after the loss of the Microsoft $50 million. (Almost 6 million PS3 version's sold. Two downloads at $6 a piece. A potential of $22 million is lost from PSN downloads.) Whatever they do, I don't want to see anymore block-heads or hear anymore out of sync audio. I also want to fly planes and drive tanks, damn it!

I have moved and do not have the internet at home, yet.

7 million games * $25 = $175 000 000
That is the cost of buying exclusivity for GTA. A lot of money. Not sure it's actually worth it.

Well, it only took $50M to make it unexclusive

Isn't it LA Noire? Where is that game anyways?

But I doubt GTA5 could go exclusive. Weren't Vice City and San Andreas on Xbox anyways? Wasn't it just GTA3 that was exclusive?

First, you do have a point about double ownership. It's correct that some people own both HD consoles. I read a survey once (consider this anecdotal evidence since I cannot provide a link) that said 5% of console owners owned multiple consoles last generation. Personally, I don't think they would make a great impact.

And I'm sorry you and your friends are game-snobs that do not buy games because they are not up to your technical standards. But that's your problem. Or is it that a metacritic rating of over 95 is 'not up to your standards'?

Also, 21+ million owners of San Andreas. 17.8 is just the PS2 version. The other two versions sold around 2 million each as well. Which means this latest installment has been a letdown for Take2. As I remember it, they expected sales to rival or surpass San Andreas.

And what was I saying before about any deal being made must surpass the potential profit? Last time I looked, $50 million is bigger than $22 million. Or was it something about that I missed? EDIT: 6 times 6 is 36, not 22. Where did you get 22 from?

I really feel that GTA IV was lacking some of those things that made the previous games so fun, but I wouldn't blame it on the multiplatform issue. I would blame it on the developers.
