Forums - Sony - Could the True Blue Megaton be GTA5, PS3 exclusive?

Isn't it LA Noire? Where is that game anyways?

But I doubt GTA5 could go exclusive. Weren't Vice City and San Andreas on Xbox anyways? Wasn't it just GTA3 that was exclusive?

3 was on xbox too. They all were.

Rockstar would not lose that much money, if any at all. A lot of people who bought this game own a PS3 and 360. Most of them purchased the 360 version due to the fact it has exclusive add-ons. Also, there were many PS3 owners such as myself and about 70% of my PSN friend list who did not buy this game because it wasn't up to PS3 standards at it's release. If Rockstar focused solely on one version of the game, they could make a game that would rival anything on the market today.

That being said, I still don't think Rockstar would do that seeing how the 17 million owners of San Andreas are now split on to two separate consoles. I also don't see Rockstar taking another exclusive deal after the loss of the Microsoft $50 million. (Almost 6 million PS3 version's sold. Two downloads at $6 a piece. A potential of $22 million is lost from PSN downloads.) Whatever they do, I don't want to see anymore block-heads or hear anymore out of sync audio. I also want to fly planes and drive tanks, damn it!

First, you do have a point about double ownership. It's correct that some people own both HD consoles. I read a survey once (consider this anecdotal evidence since I cannot provide a link) that said 5% of console owners owned multiple consoles last generation. Personally, I don't think they would make a great impact.

And I'm sorry you and your friends are game-snobs that do not buy games because they are not up to your technical standards. But that's your problem. Or is it that a metacritic rating of over 95 is 'not up to your standards'?

Also, 21+ million owners of San Andreas. 17.8 is just the PS2 version. The other two versions sold around 2 million each as well. Which means this latest installment has been a letdown for Take2. As I remember it, they expected sales to rival or surpass San Andreas.

And what was I saying before about any deal being made must surpass the potential profit? Last time I looked, $50 million is bigger than $22 million. Or was it something about that I missed? EDIT: 6 times 6 is 36, not 22. Where did you get 22 from?

I really feel that GTA IV was lacking some of those things that made the previous games so fun, but I wouldn't blame it on the multiplatform issue. I would blame it on the developers.

1st - I only counted the 17 milion because I'm not expecting X-Box and PC purchasers to buy the PS3 version of 4.

2nd - $6*2 addons = $12*approx 6 million PS3 sales= $72 million potential dollars from the PSN - $50 million from Microsoft= $22 million potential loss from the exclusiveness.

3rd - It is the developers fault. The fact is they spent the same time writing 2 codes as they have spent writing 1 in the past. Developers yes, because of multiconsole. Every company has this flaw. I don't care which system you own, exclusives are better quality.

I have moved and do not have the internet at home, yet.

Ah. So that's where they come from. That makes a bit more sense.

I still have a problem with it, since it's unrealistic to expect that every owner of GTA IV would buy the downloadable content. I would assume it would be on the same scale as the 360 version. But I don't know how much it sold on 360, so I cannot say anything about that. I don't know the details of the deal either, but I'm confident that the decision to take the money for the exclusivity was made based on the fact that they would make more money that way.

Okay I'll correct you. You're wrong

So TAke 2 just decided to take one for the team, and they signed a contract for absolutly free?

Come on man, thats so unrealistic.  Contracts cost money...everybody knows that.

So how i'm i wrong?

not necessarily

Show me a videogame contract that was free??

HVS' undying love for Wii didn't cost Nintendo anything.

Yeah but a free GTA contract >_>

Never goina happpen if the consoles wars are so close.

it would be timed exclusive, if they want full exclusivity, they would have to pay up for all the money take two would of made anyway on the 360 version. which would be a hell of a lot of money.

is it possible they might have gta4 (vice city like) and the gta4 (san andreas like) will be multi-plat just like ff13 and ff13 versus

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

Here, let me make this real easy. I believe the following link was provided by Megadude earlier in this thread as the proof that Sony has an exclusive game coming. Let me go ahead and  rewrite what was written that is applicable(since I can't paste anymore):

"As part of our long standing relationship with Rockstar, and the incredible success for both companies with the cultural icon that is Grand Theft Auto, we've agreed to the Playstation exclusive rights of the next great franchise from the Rockstar studios."

"As Jack mentioned in the interview with Geoff, this franchise is not LA Noire, but something all new."

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2007/07/27/new-rockstar-games-franchise-exclusive-to-the-ps3/

I bolded the most important bits. If we're using this blog to prove Sony has an exclusive game coming from Rockstar, we also have to agree with the logic that the game cannot be anything other than an original IP. It will not be Grand Theft Auto using this branching tree of assumptions.

Dream on.

L.A. Noire is most likely that exclusive game anyway.

@Bmaker11

No Sony didnt pay Rock* to keep it exclusive to the PS family, which is why they went MP.

@ full of win, next time read the post above you

@ onyx, the big question is whether or not that game has become vapourware, and so R* have given Sony GTA V (with some extra incentives from Sony)
