It'd be nice if they used some of their cash reserves to buy some top-notch exclusives, if that's Nintendo's stand-point. That's the only way they are going to really continue their rapid expansion at this point. It's not like the PSP where devs simply gave up and went to the DS because the sales were greater. Sales are great on 360/PS3, and unless there are some incentives to walk away from that then Nintendo won't be getting the support they want/need.

You do not have the right to never be offended.

wii as I see it, really has no killer apps that ps360 owners are really into.

We like to say that ps2 was the first casual system, but ps2 had a much different line-up. I don't think it's possible to affect sales with software at this point.

It's obvious that Wii doesn't have any "killer apps" PS360 owners are really into. Wii doesn't have its success by making games appealing to PS360 ownees. If anything, it should be the other way around if PS3/360 wants to expand its market share.

So basically you are suggesting only price cut could affect the sales? Does it only apply to Wii or all current gen consoles?

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

^Well yeah, but I think REggie is speaking to the contrary and it doesn't make much sense to me.

I'm not sure what would improve wii sales. Probably another wii fit. Games will improve sales, but it will take a long while before people start to notice the wii's 3rd party support. It just wouldn't improve sales very much while at the same time inspire competition, which Nintendo doesn't actually want. They want their games with as little competition as possible.

I don't see anywhere in the article where Reggie was saying/hinting Wii need games to appeal to PS360 owners... what did I miss? :x

I don't think I agree with the first point. The PS3 saw a surge from its price cut which saw it selling above the 360 for many months, and the 360 has seen strong sales against the PS3 and year over year since its price cut in fall '08.

The Wii might already be at a good price point, and it might have an easy time competing with such highly priced competitors, but I think it too would see a strong, long-term sales surge if it had a price cut. Assuming the stock was available to feed the increased demand, of course.

The HD systems were above mainstream prices, and they still didn't match the Wii sales when those happened.

But when the PS3 had two months of steady hits in Japan, the sales topped the Wii until the stream slowed down.

He never says it, but I'm sure you will agree that he is talking about fighters, fpses, to some extent RPGs.

So Reggie is talking about fighters, FPSs and RPGs for Wii but how does that have anything to do with appealing to PS360 owners? Wii would be more appealing to all consumers by having good games in all genres and it's not just limited to PS360 owners. I'm not sure I got your point.

I don't blame Nintendo for not dropping the price. If you had a machine that printed money, would you voluntarily turn down the amount printed? :)
