Looks like a legit research for the most part, but .. Wii owners prefer RPGs? Wat?! The most successfull RPG on the Wii in Japan is only the 14th best selling game on the system (that, if you consider DQ Swords an RPG).
I can believe that PS3 owners prefer action games, however, as top 3 most successfull PS3 games in Japan are all action games.

This is what's making me wonder as well. If there's so many RPG fans on Wii, why don't they buy them?
|
Because most of them are niche and wouldn't have sold on other systems. The good sized series like DQ and Tales have sold well (and these are spinoffs!). The Wii just needs more of those type of games, and you can't criticize it for not being able to sell smaller games. MH3, DQ X, Tales of Graces, SW3, etc. are going to build a really good Japanese/RPG fanbase on the Wii, there's no doubt about that.
|
Eh, they sold alright. And that's only relative to RPGs in previous generations and this generation.
If Japanese Wii owners truly prefered RPGs, then why haven't they bought them? There has been a very, very small amount released on Wii, and the best selling couldn't break into the Wii's top ten.

Really, you're so boring with that talk in each and every Wii thread hat mentions RPG...
All the RPG releases in the Wii sold more than fine. Again, ToS:bla bla it is a very bad effort that I wish woul sell much less (and I'm an huge Tales of fan), DQ:Swords is... oh well...
What other major release do you have on the system this far?
You need to learn the difference between great RPGs and mainstream RPGs. A an example, the bad sales of Valkyria Chronicles (the best game on PS3... by far) is much much harder to explain.

Valkyria Chronicles has not sold that great, but there hasn't been a million selling SRPG in 12 years. Valkyria is at 450k, and I think that's alright for a SRPG.
@ Soriku
Exactly. It's doing good relative to this generation. Whch is a faulty comparison in itself, because of the amount of RPGs released on 360. Had those been released PS3/360 then it would make these things more interesting.
I'm just wondering if Japanese Wii owners truly prefer RPGs, then why choose the other games and not games like Tales, Fragile, or even the recently released Tact of Magic?
