Forums - Nintendo - Top 10 Online Wii Games

It is essential that you get your Wii hooked up to the internet. From downloading games to messaging friends and even checking the latest news and weather, there's plenty of stuff to do once your Wii is online. Yet the one thing you don't want to miss out on is online gaming. You can play some of the best Wii games online and it's great fun giving your friends a beating in games such as Mario Kart Wii or FIFA 09. Want to know which Wii games you should buy to play online? Read on...

Mario Kart Wii

1) Mario Kart Wii
Without a doubt the greatest online Wii game so far. Offering not just 12-player online races using both karts and bikes but also regular weekly tournaments to take part in, there's really no excuse not to own this awesome game.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl

2. Super Smash Bros. Brawl
As the most lovingly created tribute to Nintendo we've ever seen, Super Smash Bros. Brawl is already something special in single player mode. Throw in a comprehensive online battling mode though and it immediately ranks up there as a true Wi-Fi great on Wii.

FIFA 09

3. FIFA 09
EA's range of 2009 sports titles - FIFA, Madden NFL and Tiger Woods PGA Tour - are all playable against your friends online. Yet, seeing as we're big football fans, FIFA 09 gets our vote. It's the best FIFA game yet, there are loads of teams to choose from and it's great fun to have a match against your friend's team.

Animal Crossing: Let's Go To The City

4. Animal Crossing: Let's Go To The City
It's great chatting to all the weird and wonderful animals in Let's Go To The City but you can also invite your friends to your village, show them around and even and make use of the Wii Speak microphone that comes with the game to have a conversation with them.

Call Of Duty: World At War

5. Call Of Duty: World At War
The single-player campaign is excellent but the online multiplayer is what makes World At war great. It has full online multiplayer for up to eight people, and it's fantastic fun. There's also a ranking system which gives you more "perks" and abilities as you play more and gain experience (such as the ability to set dogs on your opponents).

Guitar Hero: World Tour

6. Guitar Hero: World Tour
Rocking alone on Activision's guitar-tastic rhythm action game is fine, but rocking online with a friend is even better. This time you can play with eight players in a Battle Of The Bands mode, download new songs and share tunes that you've created.

Bomberman Blast

7. Bomberman Blast
Simple, addictive and fun, Bomberman has always provided classic multiplayer action but the latest WiiWare version is one of the best games in the long-running series. And the main reason for this is that it allows for eight-player bombing battles. This makes for some frantic action as eight players move around the grid trying to catch their opponents in a blast. Brilliant and at 1,000 Points, it's great value.

Mario Strikers Charged: Football

8. Mario Strikers Charged Football
Who needs realistic sport when you've got Mario? Pushing aside the more traditional rules of football, Mario Strikers allows up to four people to play together online with all the goal scoring and power-up blasting action you'd expect... hurrah!

Batallion Wars 2

9. Battalion Wars 2
If it's strategic warfare and plenty of big explosions you're after, then Battalion Wars 2 should be right up your street - it's basically real -time strategy without all the boring bits and offers great competitive gameplay for two
people online.

We Love Golf

10. We Love Golf
Offering easy-to-use controls and some of the best four-player golfing action that we've ever seen on the Wii, this is a real corker. Plus, play against people online and you can earn medals that unlock loads

DISCUSSSS

Dr. Mario and Boom Blox Bash Party both have super-slick online functionality. And Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 deserves a nod for more online players than any other Wii game.

@famousringo, is it a good list?

I was about to shout Mario Kart.... then I realised you meant more players in a single match. (I'm Octagonally embarrassed)

@rafichamp. Did you make this list? If so I would take SSBB out, or at least put it lower because it is apparently only good against your friends online, the random players bit is very much broken.

I agree with BWii being in there though... good stuff, the only downfall is it is quite a poor selling game, so this long after launch if you want a specific match you have to be prepared to wait a good minute till someone else is online.

Excite Bots also has a good online portion I believe... you get to bet on your own race or something. (I haven't played it myself)

The only problem I have is how laggy SSBB is online.

This list is missing Medal of Honor Heroes 2, which I believe has as good or even better online play than COD:WAW.

Also the Dr Mario & Tetris Wiiware games are fantastic to play online, as good as Mario Kart....

SSBB is only fun when playing friends, playing random players is a major lagfest. Animal Crossing online should be off this list as well as Mario Strikers. I'm sure We Love Golf is fun online, but I didn't think anyone bought the game.....

BAM! There it is!

Wii Code 3456 7941 4060 2924
COD MW Reflex 541192229709

Dang I only played one out of 10 listed online

Playing online with the Wii is an embarrassment compared to the other 2 current consoles. Because I know I am going to get criticized for saying its an embarrassment I will explain why. I have had a Wii since launch. So I finally convince my brother to get a Wii and Mario Kart and tell him that it will be fun because we can play online. He gets it all setup and he calls me and goes what is your gamertag, I explained the friend codes system. Then he goes how do we talk while playing, and then I tell him that we can't and he was like WTF!!!!! Don't they have headsets and I had to explain to him that normally everybody uses our cell phones and headset or put the phone in speaker. So long story short I was embarrassed because of how lame the Wii is in comparison for online gaming because normally me and him play on the 360.

Excite Bots should be high upon your list and so should Medal Of Honor: Heroes 2. They are not even listed. SSBB has a woeful online and shouldn't even be up there.

This is from ONM (UK magazine) so Excite Bots can't be included.
