Cool to see Silent Hill on top, my favorite horror franchise. I got a hold of a game called Amber Journey's Beyond. It's supposed to be scary, but I haven't tried it yet. I would love to play Eternal Darkness, but I haven't got a Cube nor a Wii, so...
7th Guest wasn't scary by any means...
And I'm even a huge pussy when playing scary games.
Resident Evil lives off of the 1-3.. cus the 4th and 5th in the series isnt really "scary".
Nice list. Silent Hill deserves it's first place. I didn't know the 7th quest. The story seems intriging.
P.S: I have this feeling this thread will soon be directed to the question if resident Evil is still scary.

Alone in the dark on PS1 scared the **** out of me.
Ive never actually played a Silent Hill game, and if Res Evil continues the way its headed, it should start to slide down the list
what about Clocktower? it was so scary that I have only seen the intro (the first on the PSone), never to come back!!
Penumbra is pretty scary, though in time you learn how to not get scared... =P

OT: The only time I've ever been startled by a game was resident evil 0 for the gamecube. The leech man in the bathroom spooked the hell out of me back in the day
I hope Alan Wake gets up there, Silent Hill 3 (or 4?) was the most scariest for me!!
Except Doom the list is good... Doom is not a survival-horror its a frantic FPS fro gods sake >_
