No, it cant.

The Wii Sd card support for channels and games work in a way that every virtual console game/channel/whatever you try to load has to be loaded to the Wii internal memory (512mb) to launch

You know, when you try to play Super Mario 3 from your SD card, and it has a "loading" screen before the channel logo pops up? Yep, that´s the Wii transfering your game from the SD card to the internal memory.

In conclusion: if you dont have enough space inside the wii, you cant load a game from the SD card.

And that´s why you cant have saturn games on virtual console.

UNLESS they compress the games.

I was hoping my short comments would be enough but sadly it seems I have to go into detail why you are wrong. First off, compression is an easy and workable idea. This could drop a lot of games dramtically in size and make it run. Secondly, having a ptch to run Saturn games straight off the SD card wouldn't even require much work.

Finally, and most importantly not all Saturn games use the entire space. Shining Force 3 took up a whole 235 megs wich can fit onto the Wii's internal memory. I am too lazy to look up specifics for more Saturn games specifically, but Sega coninuted not using all its space with the Dreamcast. Ikaruga used 40 megs. Most Dreamcast games could fit on a standard CD-Rom despite GD-roms having more space.

Yeah, like i said:

"UNLESS they compress the games."

I dont know if you catch it the first time, so im gonna post the phrase again for your better viewing, ok?

UNLESS they compress the games.

UNLESS they compress the games.

UNLESS they compress the games.

The problem is, you worte a lot about how SSaturn Games wouldn't be doable on Wii.

And just at end you wrote UNLESS.

Addind to that, Gnizmo showed a lot of reasons why is doable.

Pretty unbalanced post of you.

Unfortunately, this is what I think will really happen:

First five minutes: Say things like: "You want games. Will that need be fulfilled by old classics refreshed? Or new IP that surprises? We have both of these things in store for you today."

Next ten minutes: Show off third-party games we already know about.

Next fifty minutes: Wii Sports Resort demo, showing the same games as last year, played by people who are even worse than last year.

Last minute: Announce sequels to various casual games, then claim the hardcore will just love them.

This.

Pretty much summed up what I was going to say. Maybe some franchise like Pikmin 3 that about 100 people care about.

Shining Force 3 was released on the Saturn. It was 250megs uncompressed. Without compression. Using no compression techniques. That is how much space was used on the disc. Saturn games can be done without compression in some cases.

Starcraft 2 ID: Gnizmo 229

In order to avoid the same type of backlash that they received last year from core gamers, they will show off more core games like Metroid Prime Trilogy. They won't try to promote the Wii with so many fair to middling games for the console eg. like last year with Raving Rabbids when the 360 was showing off Fallout 3. They will show off something like Fragile, No More Heroes 2, or Muramasa instead, and they won't make the mistake of thinking that just because something includes the word "Wii" in its title that not everybody in the world will automatically think it is the best thing since buttered popcorn because of that something they learned from Wii Music.

Less cockiness and foolishness like the smile campaign and more real reasons for people to actually embrace the Wii.

Even up to a few years ago pretty competent pcs (ones powerful enough to run PS1 emulators) were having difficulties running Saturn games because the Saturn used two specialized processors that worked in very unusual ways.  So, I don't know if the Wii would have any more success than those pcs or not (I think they were pcs at least as powerful as original xbox).
