Forums - Gaming - RESONANCE OF FATE: BATTLE SYSTEM DETAILED!!!!!

I know there was already a thread about this but this one much much detailed:

Resonance makes use of the all new t-A-B battle system. t-A-B stands for tri-Attack-Battle. Yes, tri-Ace put their own name in the battle system. That's how they ride.

t-A-B is a semi-realtime battle system which offers elements of command battles and action battles. You start off your turn by selecting once of your characters. You then take direct control of the character, moving around and attacking a target of your choice. The current character's move ends when your attack ends. After moving all three of your party members, your turn ends.

The term "turn" may be a bit incorrect here, as your enemy actually does not have a turn. Enemies move while your characters move. They're apparently well-behaved, though, as they'll only attack the character you're controlling at the time.

Each character's turn is time-limited. You can keep on moving and switching out weapons until time runs out. However, you're limited to just one attack. Once your attack finishes, the character's turn ends even if you have time remaining.

The actual method of attacking makes use of a charging system. Once you've selected a target and pressed the attack button, your character charges up in preparation of the move. Once a charge meter that's shown surrounding the targeted enemy fills up, you can perform your attack. You can also choose to be a bit patient and charge up your attack multiple times, resulting in stronger attacks.

The amount of time the charge gauge takes to fill up is proportional to the proximity of the enemy. You'll be able to attack more quickly if an enemy is closer, but you'll also open yourself up to attack.

It should be noted that enemies also undergo this charge procedure before unleashing their attacks on you. A meter above the enemy's head shows how close it is to attacking.

While you're free to move around the battle field, you can also set up predefined paths. When moving along these paths, you gain access to Invincible Actions, special attacks which keep you invincible as you strike the enemy. They also produce some flashy effects.

Using these moves require that you make use of an item called an Invincible State gauge. These are an essential element of battle and can be earned through a variety of methods, including dealing a certain amount of damage to enemies.

There's also a defensive component to the game. You have access to a jump, which can be used to avoid enemy attack or obstacles. While in air, you can unleash an attack of your own, resulting in some stylish actions. You may actually prefer to unleash jumping attacks just for show, even if there's no real need to jump.

The Resonance of Fate battle system does seem a bit on the complex side, but we're hoping that once we get our hands on it we'll find some intuitive, enjoyable combat to accompany what sounds like an intriguing story premise. We'll hopefully hear more about the game at E3, or at the very least at this year's Tokyo Game Show.
