Their circumstances are pretty simillar, and while I like the play on Wii series, it does seem like a bit much to have Pikmin 1 and 2 both released under the label. I guess I can understand why such a thing wouldn't work. Where MP3 has been out for a long time now, Pikmin 3 probably needs to get a stand alone release as opposed to coming as part of a trilogy set. But at the same time, imagine how awesome it would have been to get all 3 on one disc.  Considering that P 1 and 2 have already gotten the Wii treatment, think there's any chance that a year or two after Pikmin 3's release we might get another trilogy disc?

And are there any other Nintendo franchises that would work under this formula? As far as I can tell it's pretty slim, since you'd need Wii games with Gamecube predecessors that specifically benefit from Wii controls.

Not a chance. Proberly limit edition but not all together. Unless they go back in time and stop NPC pikmin 1 and 2 from being relesed

I think they should do it at launch of Pikmin 3 but not increase the cost. I would feel cheated if I buy the game and then a year later there is a package like this. Would feel like me the loyal fan has been given the bad deal. I already feel that way about Metroid. Of course I am a realist and Nintendo is a business so no reason why they should do this.

Aren't all animal crossing games are very smilier to each other?

They could release a special boxed collector edition at USD99 with the 3 games (NPC 1, NPC2 and brand new 3) and extras (like a plush)... I would like =)

BUT a "Trilogy" treatment... Never. They are doing this because the NPC versions are about to be released and 3 is 2 years old and is not selling well anywhere anymore.
