Forums - Sony - I now got a PS3...yehey for me! but...

So, your wireless router is shared, and requires password authentication. It should be possible in the internet settings, but maybe not. It is very rare, for a wireless router itself to require authentication. Someone had to set it up like that. Are you playing PS3 over a school, stolen, or secure internet connection? Does your apartment/motel share wireless?

Go to your browser and type in the address bar:

192.168.1.1

hit enter

now type in:

username: admin

password: admin

Now change the settings to not require password protection.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

Price, Brawl, Galaxy, Prime, World, Heroes, Hunter, Sports, Paper, Kart, Wiki, Sin, Tysons, and Princess to name a few reasons. That said, if wireless isn't working on PS3, then it isn't working on Wii either. Sounds like a router issue to me, and not an IP issue.

buy a Wii over PS3? ROFL, anyways @ Zenfoldor, 192.168.1.1 does not always work, its different for every router (depending on brand). So he has to find his own IP

ok last week, i got my PS3 and I am enjoying the experience...

but I have a question...

how can I connect to the internet using my PS3 when my internet connection requires a username and password before I can connect

I am not talking about PSN account(I already have one)

but the internet connection itself...

Note: Uncharted: Drakes Fortune is very awesome...

I am guessing you have DSL that requires a PPPoE login?  And your internet provider provides a Windows client PPPoE software that you normally use to login to your connection?

The PS3 supports PPPoE.  Check this page:

http://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/ps3/2_60/settings/connectadvance.html

IP Address Setting

Set the method for obtaining an IP address when connecting to the Internet.

Automatic Use the IP address allocated by the DHCP server.

You can enter the DHCP server host name on the next screen.
Manual Set the IP address manually.

You can enter values for the IP address, subnet mask, default router and primary and secondary DNS on the next screen.
PPPoE Connect to the Internet using PPPoE.

You can enter your user ID and password on the next screen.

Currently playing:  PC:  Wolfenstein  PS2:  Final Fantasy X  PS3: All-Pro Football 2K8 Wii:  Force Unleashed  PSP:  God of War: CoO Xbox 360:  Gears of War 2
