I think that white people shun being proud of their colour because it isn't that remarkable. I mentioned this in the gay thread but, being proud usually has to do with a minority doing something great against or despite of a majority. For a long time the majority was white, and then it kinda became standard. I mean, black inventors would be something awesome but white is such a standard that we are not proud of Thomas Edison for being white, or Einstein, or DaVinci etc. Now if one of those was black it would be a different story. Other way around, in sports black people are so common that proud-by-color hardly exists anymore. But not so when the first black athletes emerged. They were the heroes of the black community.
In general, white people are more proud of their nation then of colour. I'm proud to be Dutch first and foremost, European second. Skin-colour is not even showing up on my list.
