Forums - Website Topics - Can we ban confessed pirates and modders?

I actually don't get why the site doesn't do this.
It woudn't take that many people sending links to forums thread where piracy and modding is mentionned to publishers to see the number of game adds this site gets go down drastically....

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

What are you talking about?

Do you take it personally when people disagree with you?  You can't be a happy person.

I'm with the great many people in this thread that feel that an ideological opposition to the pirating of new games for no reason other than not wanting to pay is a good idea for a site that exists to follow and promote the success of the video games industry.

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

The point or at very least the basic's of it are right.

This is a sales tracking site it tracks game's that are paid for, piracy or anything to do with it has no place here.

People promoting it should do it elsewhere.

If not they should be banned if they try to promote piracy here.

LOL, this thread has far more people disagreeing with you than agreeing with you, take another look at the whole thread....

It's like your on a one man crusade to save the world from the evil of piracy, the only problem with that is millions of people are involved in piracy around the world, there will be no winning against it, Microsoft tried to stop it on 360's by banning people on xbox live and failed massivily and now just accept it as part of the 360's features that do reflect and help in it's sales, same as Nintendo and the Wii, they won't ever try and stop the wii being "chipped", Sony prevented piracy on the PS3, now the PS3 is in third place with poor sales while the other two consoles that can be involved in "piracy" do very well on sales, you work it out...

No way. Pirates are cool. Especially the drunken ones with eye patches.

Now thieves should be banned. Stealing games goes against everything that this site stands for. I can't afford a lot of things that I would like to have but that doesn't make it right to steal them. I personally have a lot less money because of all the games that I buy. They might cost less if less people stole them.

I doubt it to be honest. At least here games still cost as much as a SNES game did back in the day. No matter if they switched to a cheaper medium like cdroms or later DVDs, the price tag never really changed... At least here I can't talk for the rest of the world.

Well, he's cool.  I'd be ok with it.

But seriously, people aren't arguing against what I have said, only against what they want to hear.

I have NOT said that people that mod their consoles for reasons other than piracy.

I have NOT advocated taking action against anyone in regards to ANYTHING other than their VGC membership.

I understand the logic in exempting piracy of old games etc.  What I am primarily concerned with is people saying things like "I downloaded Crysis cause it's cheaper" (yet you can still afford the PC to play it) and "I get all my Xbox 360 games for free from torrents."

These comments go completely against everything this site stands for.

As for those people trying to pretend I am making some broad statement about morality and getting high and mighty?
Go join Greenpeace.

Come on. This is not a moralization site. This site isn't here to teach us what's right and what's wrong. The site doesn't "stand" for anything. It happens to be a site that focuses on tracking console and game sales, but also is a place to meet friends and many more things. I'm certain that my main reason to keep coming here is certainly not the weekly charts, that may be my third, fourth, but not the main one.

I can't see how saying "I downloaded Crysis because it's cheaper" (which I can do because I did, my dad wanted it) is going against what the site stands for. I consider that I can help the site in many more helpful ways than "not admitting that I pirate just to go with what the site stands for"

@zexen_lowe

It's true many different people come here for different reasons, I'm sure you can help the site in many ways.

If this site was to become known as a site that promotes piracy it would damage the main reason for this site.

That reason is to track sales now If you or anybody else admits to having done a litte bit of piracy thats one thing not good but who is to know if your telling the truth or not.

But if anyone promotes piracy that could be very bad for this site if not handled, there are nine people from vgchartz going to E3 how do you think dev's and console makers would view them if this site had a rep for promoting piracy.

And how exactly is this site promoting piracy??? It's clear that it's against the rules to post link to warez (a rule that I'm not against, by the way). That's not exactly "promoting piracy".

Just because it's not forbidden to say "I pirated Crysis" doesn't mean the site promotes piracy in any way imaginable
