There's a lot of possible answers

$600 console
Arrogant Sony attitude
Loss of major exclusives like FF13
Lots of reasons for people to have defected against Sony.

Just for the Record..I don't hate the PS3..I hate companies who lie....And even when they don't lie struggle to deliver...Everyone can go on and on..But the fact is that MS has Delivered!

Microsoft didn't really deliver with reliability of the X-box 360, at least at the start. Doesn't that mean they lied a bit too? They took a risk by launching early and kept their mouth shut about the number of cases.

It's possible this sort of mentality may be more prevalent in the south. I will admit to personally to the same indulgences when I was younger. Although at the time anti-Japanese sentiment was stronger and I was supporting the American Atari over against Nintendo and Sega.

There's also the fact that Microsoft at some point became politically charged and as all political issues in the US has become partially enmeshed in the culture wars. Traditional American worship (and dislike but this is a much smaller segment of the population) of captains of industry is also inevitably at play here thanks to the fortune Gates has amassed.

I would say the effect would balance out with the European and Japanese markets supposed bias causing the Xbox 360 to perform poorly or extremely poorly in these markets on an overall worldwide scale against the Xbox 360 even when you consider any potential bias in the United States market.

 

 

I don't doubt it. I suspect the lack of significant product differentiation between the 360 and the ps3 in the eyes of most consumers allows these things to have more influence on purchasing decisions than they normally would.

Lots of reasons for people to have defected against Sony - LBP, MGS4, VC, R2, KZ2, InF, MS, HR, GoW3, U1/2 and etc.

So, what are the reasons to hate PS3 NOW?

Gran Turismo 3 - 1,06 mln. in 3 weeks with around 4 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Gran Turismo 4 - 1,16 mln. with 18 mln. PS2 on the launch.

Final Fantasy X - around 2 mln. with 5 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Final Fantasy X-2 - 2.4 mln. with 12 mln. PS2 on the launch.

 

1.8 mln. PS3 today(2008.01.17) in Japan. Now(2009.04.30) 3.16 mln. PS3 were sold in Japan.
PS3 will reach 4 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 25k.

PS3 may reach 5 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 50k.
PS2 2001 vs PS3 2008 sales numbers =) + New games released in Japan by 2009 that passed 100k so far

It is well Know that MS Rush it a bit and that ended up being a big issue...But Everything MS has said or Shown in terms of Sofware has been real..And the Sales prove that...

I've got nothing against Sony, its a company like others, i never owned their system but i want them do well. The only thing that i find a bit annoying is that there is a number of their fans that are extremely aggresive towards everyone else, that it pretty much.

But where does the dislike come from? Simple Sonys Domination in Industry during past two generations, when they were disrespectful to the public, their arrogance before the PS3 launch did not help them as well. And there are plenty of Nintendo, SEGA and MS fans that simply dont like competition to their system of choice.
