sony created the "haters" by DELIBERATELY LYING to its customers for the past 3 years. Sadly there are still some sony fanboys that eat this false crap up and spread the lies around the internet as fact.

@OP:
It can go also the opposite way: I've always been a PC gamer and MS hater, forced to use its OS only for the games I love, and I never liked or owned PSOne or PS2, I support Sony only as optical drives producer and, since XB1 release, as a barrier against MS possibly grabbing another monopoly (although MS was a barrier too against the opposite scenario).
I won't buy a PS3 either, as I expected it to be what MS feared as a deadly threat, a possible alternative to PC, but lack of RAM and only one PPE core prevented it.
Maybe PS4 will be what I'm looking for, but this gen, after I graduate, and after it gets a price cut, I'll get a Wii.
Some of them are people that's still bitter about the PS2 killing the dreamcast. There are also those that just felt Sony made too many crappy decisions with the PS3 and that they were too arrogant pre-launch
Watch the highlights from Sonys E3 2006 :P
broken promises, cocky behaviour, and has the worst fanboys ever to grace the internet in my opinion.

More like 12 years man. From 1994 (PS1) to 2006 (PS3) Sony fans must have ripped the shit out of Nintendo, Sega, and Microsoft fanboys. I mean PS2 has well over double the sales of its 3 competitors (dreamcast/gamecube/xbox) combined. And PSone owned its generation hands down.
And not just in sales but in quality games and 3rd party support.

OMG Click this link!
people hate what the can't have. in this case the haters can't afford a ps3 so they just hate it.
Sony turned there backs on loyal gamers in order to win the High Def format battle! They indeed won the format war in no small part by including Blue ray in the Ps3, but doing so caused the price of the PS3 to be $600.00. Considering a new Blue Ray player was higher than this at the time they figured it would be a no brainer to just pick up a PS3 instead. They overestimated demand for blue ray and didn't realize that most people are not willing to pay so much for a game console. This allowed Microsoft to get a much larger lead than than they would have otherwise and is yet another example of Sony arrogance.
At the time of launch it was only $50.00 more to get a 360 AND a Wii. Not to mention that the PS3 never really seems to outperform the 360 despite the supposed superiority. I honestly don't understand how any loyal Sony fanboy wouldn't feel betrayed by Sony. There desire to win the format war came at the expense of their game division.

The problem with both your theories is that the majority of 360 owners owned a PS2 or no console at all

Hypocrisy seems to fit the bill nicely since many were PS1 and/or PS2 owners.
