Forums - Sales - A possible reason why third parties prefer non Nintendo consoles

Don't argue with the man Squilliam. The PS3 is a beast with it's first party games. Face the facts.

Its too bad then that the games at position 1, 5, 7, 8 and maybe 9 are 2nd party games.

What? You think this is a response to another thread? No... but in some way... yes.

First, let's take a look at the top 10 selling first party games on two carefully cherrypicked consoles. Bear in mind which console has the largest userbase.

Wii

  1. Wii Play - 23.17m
  2. Wii Fit - 19.12m
  3. Mario Kart Wii 15.71m
  4. Super Smash Bros. Brawl 8.41m
  5. Super Mario Galaxy 7.91m
  6. Mario Party 8 - 6.53m
  7. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - 5.25m
  8. Link's Crossbow Training - 3.82m
  9. Wii Sports - 3.55m
  10. Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree - 3.17m

PlayStation 2

  1. Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec - 14.87m
  2. Gran Turismo 4 - 9.65m
  3. Eye Toy: Play - 3.86m
  4. SOCOM - 3.44m
  5. The Getaway - 3.37m
  6. Jak and Daxter - 3.21m
  7. God of War - 3.21m
  8. Ratchet and Clank - 2.93m
  9. SOCOM II - 2.65m
  10. Everybody's Golf 3 - 2.62m

Not much to add here, the numbers speak for themselves. If you were a third party, which console would you prefer? Of course you would pick one for which the most successful publisher in gaming history doesn't release any games, because this takes the biggest competition you have in this industry out of the equation.

It makes perfect sense. Or so they say. Although this strategy could become a problem for third parties if the Nintendo console is marketleader. Then again, it might not. If the market is big enough, it shouldn't be too hard to sell games.

I wasn't debating that Nintendo does a great job moving first party software. I was pointing out it doesn't do a great job moving out quality 3rd party software.

I see few of the top selling 3rd party Wii games in your collection.

Well if Nintendo is so good at selling first party games than why did Excite Bots sell less copies than I have profile views in it's first ten days? Explain that to me.

Lol!  Maybe 'cause you didn't buy more copies?    Realistically though, I'd go with lack of advertisement.  Not too many people know of this game.

Done arguing with the person who switches their post then tries to devalue the other person's argument by going off on a random war analogy.  Good day to you.

Now I've been changing my posts?*  Really Bolero, sometimes admitting you made a mistake is just easier than reinterpreting reality.

I admit I jumped into that exchange about the PS3 and the GC with my question, without realizing I was getting into the middle of a dumb two-dimensional argument about Sony versus Nintendo (if that's really what they were getting at.)  That doesn't change the fact that you saw red and charged without anything to go on but the question "That's over how many years?"

I'd say the war analogy is pretty good -- you seem a leeetle bit high strung, and quick on the trigger, don't you think?

* I haven't done a single edit more than two minutes after posting in this thread, by the way.

You were also cherry picking and doing a poor job of justifying your claim and in comes Rol with the counter thread to make your thread look even more absurd.

Cherry picking? The only game I left off that list was Sonic & Mario because it had a 1st party franchise and was even published by Nintendo in Japan. I left out the bundled 360 games for obvious reasons as well.

I did a pretty good job showing crap games top the Wii 3rd party charts as well. You said that's being subjective but I don't see those games in your collection or Rol's either.

"I don't see those games in your collections so they must be crap and I'm proving my point blah blah"

Uhm I don't buy every game I play, many of the chart toppers like Rayman Raving Rabbids are pretty awesome, same as Mario and Sonic, I've contemplated many times picking it up, I love Lego Star Wars, and Tiger Woods on Wii has become my favorite sports game.  Do I own them no?  Will I eventually if I had more cash after I buy a 360 to finish my console collection?  I most certainly will.

Because potential buyers are busy playing the VGChartz Mario Kart GP just like you should

Oddly enough the games you do drop money on are considered the best but you ignore the best sellers. I'm merely pointing out when it comes to 3rd party on the Wii mediocre games are king but the quality titles YOU would buy don't top the charts.

With that said I'd be willing to add Mario & Sonic on the list of top selling 3rd party games. Because it further proves my point crap is king on the Wii.

They know that with out "wii" or "mario" in there game name their sales will suck.

Sega had to whore them selves out to get mario on their cover to sale, so sad.
