Forums - Gaming - Confirmed: Microsoft to blame for delay of FFXIII

Wait, is that a blog saying they have proof of something? Without an actual link?

...

What?

The BuShA owns all!

Aww that sucks, been waiting for this game forever man. SE really fell off this gen. Back in the Playstation era SS/EA would drop 3-4 great games a year, What the hell happened?

Worst. Developers. Ever (actually, Management I should say).

Yes!!!!!

The J man wouldnt have it any other way......take THAT sony!!!! Hahahahahahahahhahahahhahaha

N64 is the ONLY console of the fifth generation!!!

Well I blame MS. Didn't they pay to get the game? FF13 was not made to be on a 360 dvd disc. The game is finish so SE should release the PS3 version now. Don't delay the game because of the 360. That's bs.

I agree that this is a Square Enix issue more than a Microsoft one. Surely they are finishing the PS3 version before the 360 version for the Japanese release. Since they are doing simultaneous localisation i'd have to wonder if the Western release is in fact being affected much by the 360 version. As someone else pointed out this is not an unusually long cycle for a FF game and it is after all the largest FF production ever, it's going to take time.

Well, let's assume that Microsoft did pay for the game, isn't it STILL on Square Enix how the development turns out? I mean, just because Microsoft wants it on their console, why should that mean Square Enix gets lazy on development?

well part of the contract may have been that they needed to release it in NA and EU on the same day (More likely that is part of the contract). So maybe SE have started the foundation for a 360 port so that it won't take as much time to port it to the 360, since they are more than likely near completion for the PS3 version.

With the move to HD, the overal costs have risen. Even a not unusual development time is now more of a financial strain on the company. To meet the level of detail you also need more people, which is the highest expense of them all. With any delay SE makes more costs and loses more potential profits. This is poor mangement. There is a reason, why Nintendo keeps its studio's compact and the development time short.

This brings up the increasingly relevant question: Can you work more than 4 or 5 year on a game when the standard console lifetime is around 7 years?

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

I don't think SE got lazy.  They started working on FF13 for the PS3 in 2007 right then MS annouce they was getting the game at E3 2008 so maybe SE started working on the 360 version last year and that would delay the PS3 version.

This is old news, they announced last year that they weren;t starting the xbox version until the ps3 version was done
