usually I hate it, but I "accept" if the rest makes up for it. FF IX had a decent amount of random battles so that I wasn't bothered by it. but if I could change it, I'd do it with no doubt

It depends. I like games that have both.
My favorite RPGs are Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana and Super Mario RPG so.....yes.

Same could be said the other way, as I've gone into battle far too weak and got my arse handed to me because it is always far to tempting to just ignore the battles. Even beaten by enemies in the next area, not a boss.

Thats why Grandia was truly huge at its time.

If they're well implemented (not too frequent, they end quickly, short loading screen and there's something you can do to not have 'em like FF8's Enc-None), I don't mind 'em at all. If they're poorly implemented, I hate them
