Forums - Microsoft - DLC is becoming overwhelming

^^ Great post as always Dodece, glad you're unbanned, i was going to appeal on your behalf but you can't apparently.

I agree with you the length of the DLC needs to match what you pay, but also the quality, its not good having 8 hours DLC for 400MS points if its a POS.

I don't mind SO much about the duration more so the quality, I want to enjoy it.

@seece

Thank you for your efforts on my behalf. Though to be honest there really is nothing you can do about a double standard. The favorites get all the latitude, and the hated get none. So some posters are allowed to fling insults, and others are not allowed to respond. You just have to accept that and move on. Though I am never going to allow someone to insult me, and get away with it. So I suppose one of these days I am going to be permanently banned. Just the way the world turns.

Honestly I think my value metric still stands. Unless you get orgasmic while gaming. The thing is that you can always get you money's worth, and still have great fun. All you need to do is find your value. For example I enjoyed both of the DLC packs for Fable 2 they were not cheap productions, but I only got eight hours from them combined. Now I recently purchased Broken Bond, and I am sure I will get at least thirty hours of fun from that game. So I get the same fun, but one was a better monetary value.

You all choose to pay for it because you haven't been exposed to superior quality services. Microsoft tried to implement their rip off subscription GFWL (XBL's PC twin) and no one on PC subscribed to it because PC gamers have much more quality, free services, and ultimately forced MS to make GFWL free.

With DLC it's the same thing. PC gamers are used to superior, quality add-ons that give bang for your buck, and free user modifications that are higher quality than what you pay for on XBL.

And no, it's not hard seeing how popular consoles are to PC gaming, because PC is more popular than them and has currently over 300 millions PC gamers.

That is enough already, we don't need 48957 posts from you to know that you and your pc are a "superior gaming breed".

(I use a console because I'm tired of "tuning my rig..." and I'm happy enough about it).

More seriously, I believe the DLC is more a economic model than a necessity/fatality to the console world.

Evan Wells (Uncharted 2): I think the differences that you see between any two games has much more to do with the developer than whether it’s on the Xbox or PS3.

@kowenicki

Rubang jumped in a thread, and told me to go suck a lemon. So I went postal on his ass. Told him I thought it would be great if he died, and I wasn't stupid enough to do leg work for him. Then I asked if he was drunk.

I think DLC is a good thing, it keeps companies from constantly releasing IP year after year without making any real strides in gameplay and such.

I would rather spend $10 on DLC then $20-70 on a yearly release of IP.

There is a lot of it, but if you are a fan of the game it is a good way to keep the game fresh.

I agree somewhat, DLC works for some games and not for others, the GTA DLC for instance looks great, the Fable II DLC hasn't worked out so well though ..

I think the companies are still trying to figure out what works and doesn't work for DLC.  GTA is taking DLC in a totally new direction (and the way I think it should always be done)...  Essentially, they are reusing the game engine to have a new take on the game and see it from a different perspective.

Most of the time DLC is too much just trying to extend the play time.  I like breathing in new life by following different characters with a new plot like GTA did...

I still need to get the GTA dlc, I also can't wait until the Gears of War 2 dlc is released.

DLC is great because it is not pirated yet.
