Forums - Website Topics - I don't think IM conversions said be used in forum to humiliate people!!!

what does anyone else think?

Does this kind of thing make you think twice before using it?

And should we treat new users this way?

If you don't want the info used against you, then don't say it. Especially don't say it in a public chatroom. A rule about PMs/personal IMs might have some grounds for existence even though I am still against it. A rule against remembering what was said in a chat that anyone can join is just kinda dumb. Its like saying you can't use what was posted on the forums.

Should it? Probably not. Does it happen anyway? Of course. Will posts like this stop it? No.

Bottom line: anything you say on an IM can and will be used against you in the court of public opinion. If this makes you uncomfortable or would cause problems for you, close the damn window. It's hard to have sympathy for people who could so easily have prevented their problems with just a moment or two of forethought.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

What's the difference between saying something crazy in IM and in the forums?

Well, there's your answer.

@Gnizmo

Then why is there a rule against using other people Quotes in your sig if they don't wont you to.

and a rule that says you can't start a thread that says someone sucks.

But you can to humiliate them.

@d21lewis

Because if you are in IM talking with 5 people and then someone turns it into a thread to humiliate you it is different if they want to take you to task it should be done at the time that they are talking to you not act like a coward.

Oh.

If you have a problem with a post/thread (it doesn't matter if there is a forum rule or not) just report it and let the mods deal with it.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

I have haven't heard back thank-you I'm not trying to up set anyone just upset by someone trying to humiliate another person paticualy as the person was only new.

If you had claimed that you were a Nintendo of America head (or something) anywhere on the net, you would have been bashed. I actually felt that the people replying were pretty nice (when I read him claiming that he was a NoA head, I was afraid people were gonna go "Whahaha, you idiot" and really upset the guy.

He was lieing and saying completely irrasional things, in addition to flaming the other people. He could easily have gotten a short-term ban if he had done it on the forums. When you act as silly as he did, you have to be willing to take some humiliation.

When I write Fact: in one part of the post, and opinion: (or a similar word), it's not because I can then say "my opinion can't be wrong". It is to inform what part is pure facts, and which part I try to draw a conclusion in.
