^ They have the games, they just haven't talked about them yet.

I think my first prediction in this thread is that no xbox holiday '09 game will result in the sale of as many 360s as  Gears of War 2 did during the holiday of '08 meanwhile games like Uncharted 2, GT5, and FFXIII in Japan will result in many more PS3 sales regardless of price cuts than LBP, Resistance 2, and Valkyrie Chronicles did the last holiday season.

r u kidding me? i think gears 2 was only responsible for like 50,000 consoles if that. Im pretty sure ODST will push those kinds of numbers

Long Live SHIO!

Considering that they are pretty close to one another now with such a big price gap, I'm gonna have to disagree with you.

"If GM loses money its just par for the course, its whats expected of them. However if Toyota started losing as much money as GM the markets would have a fit. Thats underachieving and yet both are performing as badly as each other." This is just babbling nonsense. Achieving or underachieving is all dependent on ones ability to achieve. With a hefty price tag, the PS3 had very little chance to achieve at any major level. If anything I would say the PS3 has overachieved. especially when you think about where they were 6 months into this gen.

^ Nonsense? If it depends on ones ability to achieve then you said it yourself, their ability to achieve was pwn the entire market. The actual result was they were pwned by the entire market. Just because you think that the product PS3 overachieved relative to the hand it was dealt thats fine you can hold that belief if you want. The company Sony however underachieved by pretty much every metric applied to them.

Tease.

Ahhhh, Now we are gfetting somewhere. I agree many folks at sony blew it this gen. I would preferr the word incompetence over underachieve tho. Saying the product underachieved thos gives the conotation that in some way it was inferior. now I know as an XBOX fan you would like to believe it was, but lets face facts it's not. People have not accepted the PS3 in mass due to 1 thing, and thats it's hefty price tag. if it had launched at say $300 do you honestly think things would be the same now? Heck even $350 or $375? Also believe it or not Sony has done some things well this gen to set itself up for the future.

What ifs are a tricky subject, you can't assume that everything else would be the same had they gone back in time to change things. Hell even had they launched with a simpler console @ $300 it still may be the same result we have now or worse or better. The market is complicated and theres noone here who can accurately predict it.

Tease.

well just have to wait and see

i think FFXIII can do wonders in japan,
by the facts known by now (may change after E3) i believe PS3 will outsell Xbox360 this holidays.
Predictions for the whole year is a different story.

You can put a 90 year old man who has smoked a pack of ciggerettes every day in the Boston marathon, and his family and closest friends can convince him and themselves he is going to win. He might even finish the race, but if he comes in dead last did he underachieve? Just becaue the foks at Sony deluded themselves into thinking they could win doesn't mean they ever stood a chance. the 360 had solid specs, reasonable price, and a years headstart, yet they are still in a position to have to keep an eye on what Sony does. Exactly who here is underachieving?

You're not drawing the right parallels. a 90 year smoker is someone who clearly should not win, or even finish the race. However, Sony was the frontrunner, and everyone, SONY INCLUDED anticipated them winning the race. Hardly a parallel for a 90 year old smoker running 26 miles.

Rather, the PS3 was the 25 year old athlete in top shape, the anticipated front-runner, who took some time off instead of properly preparing before the race. Then when the time came, he disappointed everyone, and himself. That is underachieving. The 360 came into the race having barely qualified, and being almost universally expected to be totally trounced by Sony.

Intentions and expectations determine who underachieves. And based on that, only Sony has underachieved this generation.
