Forums - Sales - Whats going on with PSP slim sales?

I am confused. Can someone please confirm or deny if the new PSP has been released in the US?

We know the state of play in Japan - a limited number of slims were released last week, and they sold out (along with CC:FF7 ). The rest of them go on sale this week.

PSP sales in Europe are up considerably - 90k this week, compared to 40k the week before.

But sales in the US are confusing. I was *sure* that the release of the slim would have sold 100-200k PSP units (as is common with the release of any upgraded hardware).

Yet according to the weekly charts - PSP 67k (this week), vrs 56k (last week), vrs 38k (previous week).

...

So its out? If so, does anyone think this is a pretty poor performance? Has there been much advertising from Sony?

(I know its been very low key here in Australia - the occasional poster at EB, and that's about it??)

I thought it was released yet in US.

:s. Yeah now you mention it the numbers are low compared to other regions.

Hrmmm the PSP is big with the Final Fantasy fan base in Japan so the 77,777 limited edition FF7 PSPs were a sure fire deal. The PSP is pretty big in Europe regardless because its Sony. But in the U.S., it's hard to say, maybe there wasn't enough money put into advertising.

Word of mouth seems to be around where I live that hardcore gamers aren't impressed with the PSPslim's changes, many U.S. gamers apparently wanted dual analog sticks and a longer battery life so this was a dissapointment for them. Alot of gamers didn't want a smaller screen either as that was one of the reasons they liked the PSP over the DS (I don't know if the screen is actually smaller or not but its a complaint I hear). But that's just what I've gathered, nothing more than an anecdotal second hand account so nothing conclusive or even worth discussing. It's really a mystery at this point.

A possible reality though might be that they weren't released here in time to affect the latest sales figures.

Well, sales *have* been up the last two weeks - just not up substantially. Maybe by splitting the launch across two weeks, they managed to avoid any "huge" weekly sales.

See what happens over the next couple of weeks I guess!

Ah that clears it up. Any idea when the full slim launch is?

The unit is priced at $230 in Canada, how much is it in other countries?

About a month ago they had the system no pack-ins for $180. So no big deal over here.

Not full release.

Star wars bundle will be the big seller.

Guys, a bit off topic, but I'm playing FFCC right now; one of the best action-RPGs I've ever played and the best SE spinoff by far! I'll play some more and then create a preview thread for my impressions; I'm 4 hour into the game so far and it's freaking awesome! Please do buy this game as soon as it comes stateside.

Ahh, so that explains it.

When are the units available standalone?
