Actually the PS3 has to be drawing nearer to the break even point by now. So the increase or PS2 sales and steady PSP sales which is profitable should cancle out if not make them profit on system sales. Plus they also have SW sales to always look foward to with older games still selling steady numbers and newer games being released.

Let's just say the PS3 is at a better position where it is now than last year this time or even before that.

That means the ps3 ERASED ALL Of the ps2 profits AND PSP profits and wasted ANOTHER 240 MILLION which is MORE THAN THEY LOST IN THE SAME QUARTER LAST YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All the consoles are slow at the moment, you can't say how low ps3 sales are when 360 is only 11k higher!

May is always slow, all three consoles are seeing reductions in sales. I personally like the Xbots coming in and slashing the SDF for compairing the 100k sold 400+ dollar PS3s to the 110K 200 dollar 360 sales. Its a valid point, one that should be discussed thoughtfully, which is what this site is for, instead its a chance for people with out the money to purchase all three systems to whip out their E-Penis and thump their chests on why the one they picked is better than the two they cant afforde.

Also there are rumors all over about the PS3 getting a price cut at E3 or a new slim model, sales are going to cool further for Sony no mater how much they protest the rumor. People want to save money.

Also it has become apparent that the Entertainment industry is not as recession proof as people once thought, evidence is everywhere.

If Sony was selling this low, and the other two consoles were still selling on par with previous months, then come here and dance your little happy dance that soon you can pick up a PS3 for 100 bucks in the Bargin bin, but till then just sit back and relax. Wait for E3 and have fun with your consoles.

Calm down buddy. I'm talking about the recent increase of PS2 sales plus steady PSP sales. These will offest the losses better than nothing. Plus are you trying to convince me that the PS3 is the same amount to manafacture than it was a year ago? With the PS3 in the little slump that it's in it won't be selling the same amount of systems as last quater. So decrease in PS3 sales + increase of PS2 sales + PSP profit with other games launching should be pretty damn close to breaking even.

I am not giving any obvious evidence and is mostly my own opinion. I may be wrong but I am entitled to "MY" own opinion.

And I am defiantly not saying Sony is not out of the fire or frying pan but the PS2 price cut was defiantly a smart move. A PS3 slim if released can only make things better.

Things can only get worse before they can get better. Even the great depression came and passed and so will the hard economic times we are having as well.

I do not think it is that big of a deal for Sony. All three console makers are taking a hit and the PS3 is still consistently selling on par with the 360 worldwide.

Actually, forcefully boosting PS3 sales when the console is probably not close to breaking even is risky. It may put another heavy burden on Sony's financial crunch. I think strengthening their software lineup is a safer choice, which is what they seem to be doing.

On the other hand, Microsoft needs to plan carefully. They have to secure the upcoming major holiday seasons. Otherwise, they will have barely any momentum going into 2010. This will give Sony a really good chance for a solid comeback.

Stop whispering, I think there are some people who really need to hear that.
