If Apple bought EA, it would be much worse for Sony or Microsoft potentially.

Nintendo does not rely on EA software whereas the others do to a greater extent.

Still, I do not expect this to happen.

You want to see PS3 Fanboys and 360 Fanboys unite?  Take Madden away from both consoles

even if apple bought EA it cant its a violation of the contract it has with the NFL and NFLPA. that would open things up for 2k to make NFL games again, and hey sony, and MS to do the same... though even when there were 4 NFL games out a season it was just madden and 2k

Please, elaborate. The contract with these teams is for licensing - using player names and likeness, as well as team colors/logos. Not that this would happen, but if it DID, there's nothing telling the developer/publisher what platforms it should deliver the game to. Personally, it wouldn't matter. Sports games are boring.

part of the contract requires them to make it for every platform im not quite sure of the wording, but its one of the reasons there was an original xbox version of madden out last year.  i was responding to the idea that madden could be taken away from both consoles which under current contract it can not

Goddog, understood. I was unaware of any power that the NFL had over which systems the game comes to. In traditional movie-licensed games, it's usually open ended to the developer/publisher what platforms the game comes to.

that was true for madden until madden got exclusivity of the NFL and NFLPA license. however since then Madden has had to share the love. all of this came about as a way to kill 2k which had gotten better then madden and for its last year offered at half the price.... I miss 2k....      right now madden NFL and NFLPA are all being sued again and again for violating rights related to retired players ..... or basically the one thing the contract does not coverer and how we got 2k All PRO football... sadly all pro showed though that no one buys football games unless it has an NFL license.

right now though 2k and retired players are suing EA madden NFLPA and NFL over monopolistic policies in relation to license i expect them to win given how prior cases have gone in this battle. It hinges mainly on EA and NFLPA/NFL acting in collusion to under value the exclusivity. this is a violation of the NFLs protection against monopoly cases, and could and most likely will cause the contract to be null and void when ever it gets ruled on

That's really interesting, so if this happens as you expect, then the Madden series would lose its licensing rights. With John Madden officially retiring now, it seems that it might just be the end of EA's pro football games.

To be honest, I've played madden and 2k, didn't care for either. I liked NFL Blitz the best, mostly for the late hits.

how so?

I would not be so confident in Apple my friend. Steve Jobs can't live forever.

Even if they dont make a console and only buy EA that would could spell trouble for both $ony and M$, especially if Apple decides to favor one over the other.

I wonder what MS would have to do in order to gain Apple's favor...

The way I see it in that sense, if Apple takes over EA, it spells trouble for MS, not Sony.  Sony and Apple might not be best friends, but everyone hates MS.  I don't see a logical reason Apple would support them.  They'd release games for 360, but be very unlikely to make exclusives or timed exclusives, even if MS tries to moneyhat.  Apple is a company that doesn't need or want MS's money=P
