do you know how wrong you are here apple has cash on hand to buy take2, EA, acti-bliz, all at 20% premium of market cap. and still have cash left over, 

apple is just short of the cash it would need to buy sony corporate, but im sure a cash stock deal could do it.

apple has tens of billions of debt free cash more then even ms right now, and sony is not what they were even 3 years ago

I used market cap +20% as the sell price for each company vs apples cash on hand......

so i stand corrected apple could freely buy sony, with a little bit of stock and if i had updated numbers as ive seen floating around 29-34.5 B

and remember apple has no debt 

Sony has a market value of 17.12 billions of dollars while Apple has a market value of 79.54 billions of dollars.. just saying..

Maybe Apple wants to make a portable console, not a home one, it would make more sense for some reasons:
1) this gen the first ranked portable, DS, already sold more than all the home ones put together
2) even the second, PSP, sold almost as the first home one, Wii
3) there are only two competing portables right now, as opposed to three competing home consoles
4) portable devices made Apple skyrocket, they do as always fine (but quite expensive) computers, but iPod success makes them almost pale, business-wise.

That said, whatever Apple does, MS won't like it, it's already trying to grab a slice of Apple's pie (sorry for the pun ) in music downloads and players and it considers a divine right of its to own home computing.

If all the rumours are false, nevermind for Apple: it's all free advertising, as always happens every time Jobs plays his show.
