Forums - Sales - Who makes more money, Activision or Blizzard?

Not everyone pays 12 dollars/month though. You can buy more month for cheaper (not sure how much, but still).
And WC3 is, believe it or not, still selling some copies. Also there are people that just start playing WoW, and WoW + TBC + WotLK isn't that cheap.

Blizzard, even +10m sales of CoD each year can't make up for WoW

WoW has a revenue of what? 12 dollars/month = 144 dollars a year, times what? 13 million paying members? That's 1872 million, or 1.9 Billion. Of course, they have some expenses, but I believe they are comparable to the cost of what Activision does; developing entirely new games.

Now, Activision. On current gen games, they have sold around 70 million. The average revenue is, presumably, around 40 dollars. That's 2.8 billion in total. So I'd have to say that lately, Activision is at around 1 billion revenue/year, and Blizzard is at around 2 billion revenue/year.

BUT!

That's wrong. Activision Blizzard has reported a 5 billion in total. How much of that can Blizzard have made? Unless the WoW number is drastically higher,  Blizzard can't have made more than 2.5 Billion, or at least at a top of 3 billion. So it's actually rather close (heck, Activision could be bigger).

Having said that, Blizzard is going to be far larger in 2009 (due to the fact that they actually release games this year), and they probably made more profit overall.

You forgot to add people buying the actual game, not monthly fees. WoW + WOW TBC + WOW WOTLK = 3 games per person, with millions and millions of people.

But hold on, not only is warcraft 3 and its expansion still selling everywhere, diablo 2, and starcraft with their expansions are still selling!!

I'd definately say blizzard.

Activision owns Blizzard so it doesn't even really matter.

Actually they don't really. It's like 51 percent of the stock.

Check out my game about moles ^

Definitely Blizzard, Activision might have a huge income, but just like every other game company, the expenses of creating games takes away most of it.

According to wiki, the revenue is 2.9 for Activision and 1.1 for Blizzard... and apparently 5 for AB... I would not trust this entirely
