Forums - Sales - More respect should be shown to the effort put in to tracking sales.

As scottie said a log or announcement for software would not be practical as the amount of work to do this would be huge.

The edits are done because they have to be they have nothing to do with ninja's lol nor are they secret.

If it was possible how do you think it could be done in a simple way.

How can you expect professionals to take VGC numbers seriously if they can undergo rapid changes without any trace left other than memory of forum posters?

It's all about credibility.

I always belive sale numbers on Vgchartz are always wrong (give or take -5% most of the time).  Lets say if a game is listed as selling 1 million copies, I think to myself... that game has sold 985,000.  But still a good guest.

@Zlejedi

while I can see your point vgchartz are not the only tracking site that make adjustments and don't report them.

I too think it would be good if hardware adjustments were explained but software would be to difficult and take to much time.

I am pleased that you want to discuss this in a reasonable way by doing this a better way may be found to make it possible.

I agree, people should appreciate that this is a free service.

At least on this site the adjustments are made at different times from the weekly updates and thus are visible to anyone who spends any amount of time here. Generally requests for explanations about large adjustments are addressed by one of the bosses.

My understanding is that NPD just adds any adjustments to the their new figures (at least the publicly available numbers), without any explanation whatsoever. In essence trying to give the impression that their figures are always correct and don't need adjustment.

The fact that we are even aware that adjustments are made on this site tells me that the guys here are serious about providing as good numbers and as much transparency as is feasibly possible.

VGChartz numbers are cited in the Guinness Book of World Records, Forbes, the New York Times, and many other places.  And I've talked to some game marketing people and game reviewers who said they use our numbers all the time.

Any time numbers are posted they are estimates and subject to change.  You should expect small changes as data becomes more accurate anywhere you go, unless their numbers are psychic and their new data are lies.

@canch

All tracking site numbers are wrong what you say is true + or - 5% is reasonable.

but this is for all tracking sites.

@hsrob

you put this very well I am very pleased with the way the adjustments are done a brief note with major adjustment would be nice but for software or small adjustments no. also npd do not explane all they adjustment as you said they are kind of hidden.

@The Ghost

Thank-you for pointing out that there are professionals that use vgchartz numbers and it is always good to see papers and record books like Guinness using them as they have tough rules to enter records.

What I meant was in General, but  just saying about vgchartz as the topic is about Vgchartz
