You may have heard rumblings throughout the internet in the last couple of days of Sony's rumored slimmed-down version of the PLAYSTATION 3 system. Sony has evolved its game systems to more compact designs since the first PSone was introduced. Since the PS3's introduction, Sony has been trimming away features from the PLAYSTATION 3, although it looks no less bulky on the outside. It's pretty much inevitable that the PLAYSTATION 3 will come out in a slimmed down version, but various rumors point to a PS3 Slim system that may be around the corner.
Since this past week, rumors of a PS3 Slim system have really taken off after a photo leak. Here's a round-up of various rumor reports which fuel a suspected showing of the PS3 Slim soon, possibly at E3.
PlaystationLifestyle.net reports on a rumored hardware design, but no images show up yet.
IGN posted a few images that came from Japanese gaming site GameColumn.
IGN says they've heard from a GameStop employee who questioned a Sony representative on the images. At first the Sony rep doesn't deny it.
Here are some other photos posted on the GameSpot forums and on Neogaf.com, with similarities in the original PS3 production environment noted (pink).
PlayStation 3 manufacturers MainTek request the removal of images from the website that posted the photographs (now removed): "3509 : Alex_Hsieh [url] : 2009/05/14(木) 19:06:22 ID: - | EDIT We would like to ask you kindly remove the following pages of your pages on your website because the page contains MainTeK Computer Incorporation confidential document and photos, which were illegally released and posted on your website."
Finally, take a look at the photos below that are posted around the web, but with their Chinese translations. These are rough translations. The translator was only shown the characters/words, not the photographs. I didn't see the translations posted on another website.
Of course, Sony has denied the PS3 Slim and won't acknowledge anything on the rumors. Maybe more details will come in just a couple of weeks at E3 2009!

*** UPDATED **** I have been hearing people saying that it looks ugly, however, this is not the final version of the product, so do not judge its looks when its only in its earlyest stages of development.
