Forums - PC - Program that translates a paper into Word 2007?

My girlfriend has a paper due but I don't have Word 2007.  The Open Office i have doesn't seem to want to save a paper as a 2007 document(since that's what the college uses) and the 2003 documents don't turn out correct... I guess due to docx? Do any free office programs do this?

Has she tried .rtf?

.pdf and .rtf are the standard document types accepted most anywhere.

.txt
Universally works >_>

That would be weird as 2007 has a compatibility mode which in my experience properly retains the format of any document in 2003 format. Did they explicitly state that it had to be in 2007 format?

I deal with this all day at a print shop.  When you're dealing with word you can plan on reflow (even with the same version on different computers).  Printing to a pdf is generally the best thing you can do.
