either way, the xbox is still going to kick ass. i could care less if the ps3 sells more, because the 360 is my console of choice. as long as i still have fun games to play, i'm good.

microsoft its not a hardware company. the original xbox was never slimmed.

sony on the other hand have done it to everything.

they even got thinned OLED LCDS.

That's because of the contract they signed for the first XBox was unprofitable so they ditched XB1 altogether and moved on to the 360. 

Besides it's not like Microsoft needs to do anything anyway ... IBM and ATi would be the ones doing the chipset redesign and last time I checked those two are hardware tech companies (pretty good ones at that). 

I'd say they probably know how to bring down the size of an almost 4-year-old piece of tech. 

Sony has never launched a Playstation slim edition less than four years after the launch of the console itself. Doing so would be a sign of desperation and weak sales.

If Sony did it, they would most certainly outsell the Xbox 360 for some time. But in this industry, there is such a thing as blowing your wad too early. If you dont completely annihilate the market (see PS1 and PS2), using your sales-boosting tools just means you dont have them later, and your console will fall by the wayside.

This side of E3, it appears Nintendo have blown their sales-spurring games way to early, but they have held off on price cuts and colours to ensure they have more tools later on. Sony on the other hand have tried price cuts (so desperately that they removed features to manage it), colours, bundles galore and they still cant come in anywhere other than third. And this with all but two of their biggest games already out (GT5, FFXIII) and one of them is now multiplatform.

Microsoft have more scope to cut price, just as much ability to create a slim and vary colours, and just as many big games in the pipeline. So will a PS3 slim offer a temporary boost in sales and reversal of the HD console's places? Sure. Will it alter the console war in any way? No.

Nintendo hasn't released anything big since Mario Kart last year. I would bite me tounge, they are going to have massive titles for the second half of the year.

Iwata basically said as much in the Nintendo financial briefing (last year they had bigger titles in the 1st half of the year with Smash Bros + Wii Fit + Mario Kart, this year, they will have bigger titles in the 2nd half).

If Sony releases a PS3 Slim, MS will counter with a 360 Slim. Bank on it.

Probably would be smarter just to add a 60GB HDD to the Arcade, making it a real gamer's SKU at $199.99.
