Forums - Microsoft - Is this the year Microsoft assaults casuals and ignores Sony?

Well as much as 360 fans are going nuts about beating PS3 by a few weeks, MS needs a new strategy for the 360 besides: "let's cut the Price to DS levels".

Lol.  It has been a good strategy though.  Completely turned the tide last year when PS3 had been outselling 360 from the start of the year till the price cuts and since then 360 has always been on top apart from a few weeks like when Killzone 2 was released.

MS has been trying to get at the casuals for awhile now and it's not working. There wasn't just the big push last Christmas, but even since Viva Pinata came out they've been trying to cut into Nintendo's market share. It hasn't worked because MS's business model is based on stealing tech from others then using FUD to weaken the opposition so that they can finally incorporate the product into their hegemonic model and take market share by sheer force of self-perpetuating momentum. They failed to steal Nintendo's tech because they were too busy worrying about Sony's, Nintendo is virtually FUD-proof, and they still haven't built their momentum for it to become a self-sustaining business model. Just copying what Nintendo has done will never change that for them. They need to find a way to beat Nintendo at their own game (aka revolutionize the game industry by providing something almost entirely new).

You do not have the right to never be offended.

Actually MS strategy seems to working since they are actually making a profit on the 360.

Something that sony still can't do 5 billion dollars in the hole later

If they try to directly take on the Wii... then they are stupid.

They need to keep focus on SONY and what they will do to take that 2nd place.

Staying focused on Sony is the Worst thing they could do. Nintendo is selling 25 million -30 million a year and Sony is selling 10 million -11 million a year. Nintendo is going into super Nova and Sony is crashing and burning. The silly graphics war with Sony is only gonna cost Microsoft Millions. Making for shooters and hardcore games isnt gonna push hardware any more.

No, ignoring SONY is a BIG mistake... as a fight against Nintendo would be futile.

I think Microsoft is thinking that there gonna keep selling Halo and Fable games, but also put out a larger more direct war against Nintendo. Microsoft always always always attacks the biggest dogs. Almost never the second or third biggest. ex. Apple, Google, Playstation (till now), now its surely Nintendo. Microsoft makes $15 billion a year, why go after the third place dude?

Well I think what was meant to say in the beginning was not to "go after" the third place dude but focus on keeping him there and building a bigger lead.

The problem is that everyone already knows the end of the out come. Xbox 360 will have a 2:1 lead in the US, Sony will have a 3:1 lead in Japan, and Europe is gonna be tied. At the end its just a stalemate.  Possible with Xbox 360 leading because of the lower price as the higher prices reach saturation.

No... everyone dosent know the outcome, thats the outcome YOU think will happen... and your basing it off of how the market is NOW.

The only one of your arguements that i can see being right is the America one... SONY will have Japan by at least 5:1, and Others will be in PS3 favour also by probably 1.5:1

It is most likely the outcome. The PS3 has a declining market share and the Xbox 360 is slightly up. Its not gonna change much just by making more hard core games.

@gameman.
You will be surprised at how much difference these make...
1. Pricecut (Worldwide)
2. Gran Turismo 5 (Worldwide)
3. Final Fantasy 13 (Japan)

The only reason 360 is up YoY is because of its price.

MS dont have to worry about Sony . the war is pretty much set in stone..
MS just has to do what its been doing comeing out with good games..

You will be surprised at how little any of those will have an effect other than maybe FF 13 in Japan. When I say little, I mean they Will have a nice bumb in sales for a couple weeks or even months, but it nothing that will turn the tides. Sony has a 8 million deficit behind Xbox and 30 million behind the Wii. None of those can come fast enough to hard enough to turn it around. Top it off with the fact that Sony shed $1.5 billion for the entire company the last fiscal year.

A pricecut wont have an affect on sales? Neither will GT5?

Are you sane?
