How much will it manage to sell within that time?

Here are sales numbers for earlier Call of Duty games:

Call of Duty: World at War sales in 2008 only: 3,870,000 units in the United States alone (7 weeks, 5 days of availability).

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare sales in 2007 only: between 3,984,000 and 4,097,000 units in the United States alone (8 weeks and 5 days of availability).

I think this game is now going to be hugely successful.

I think it can manage to sell about 4,750,000 units in the United States in about 7 weeks, easily, and definitely reach 8 million worldwide when 2009 ends.

It'll be the best selling game of the year and it'll track above both MW and WAW, but by how much, I don't really know.

I think you're right on the money with the 8 million prediction at years end.

I'm gonna say 7.35 million just to be safe. I decided to only account for the larger install bases each system will have a year after the last release in the series. Judging by how world at war sold the first 7 weeks worldwide on both the ps3 and 360 combined, Modern warfare 2 is guaranteed to sell at least 7.35 million. That's of course not accounting the broader acceptance and popularity the modern warfare iteration enjoys which will definitely bloat it's sales even more.

8 million sounds like a good number and depending on how well the holiday season goes for the HD twins it could be even higher.

8 million is a very good estimate for Modern Warfare 2. I'd hate to be a publisher who has to release a game during that period.
