Forums - Sony - 3 years PS3 - no innovation, just Shooters?

You seem to ignore the post that mention the innovation and focus on the posts that bring up more minor things but not the examples. Personally and although many people didn't like the game Folklore to me was pretty innovative with how the sixaxis was used to rip the ids out of the wow it's been so long I forgot what they were called but anyway, what you feel is just rehashed with better graphics other notice what is innovative. I think what you are really wanting to say is why aren't they using the ideas that you would find innovative.
Some find any use of the six axis gimmicky and in some instances it is while in others it's very innovative.
Now the next question is are you only comparing to last gen or the other consoles as well if just last gen nosy has made major improvements with online, hard drive, plus other things.
Some things to you may seem only graphics but there is also the fact that the ps3 is capable of calculating some amazing physics which is why there can often be fun weapons that bounce all over the place. Or the often mention on this thread LBP

First off, the PS3 HAS NOT been out for 3 years. Second, I don't think you've honestly seen the PS3's library. Outside of Resistance and Killzone, what has Sony brought so far that is just FPS....FPS....and maybe TPS? Uncharted is action adventure, what about Ratchet? Have you played Flower? What about Sega's Valkyria Chronicles? Or Wipeout HD? Did you play Heavenly Sword, or Motorstorm or SIREN: Blood Curse or Little BIG Planet? Or what about the masterpiece that is Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots?

Somehow, I doubt you made this thread because the PS3 is lacking in games, because it isn't. So I ask, what PS3 games have YOU been playing?

CGI-Quality just pawned your sad, little thread!

For me innovative games are not only the one wich will give me new game play mechanics but also the feel of a very unique and enjoyable experience.

As of today some PS3 games have already entered this category : Flower, Valkyria Chronicles, Eye of Judgement, LBP, The crossbow parts in Heavenly Sword, The Indiana Jones cinematic feel of Uncharted and Fat Princess.

And I'm sure Heavy Rain will soon join those games.

What happened? After 3 years we have the best available FPS on a console with Killzone2, but where is the innovation? Does Sony only try to beat XBOX360 in Shooter Quality?

Alright, I'll bite. Beyond the obvious (the PS3 isn't three years old), the above statement reads like selective blindness to me. Killzone 2 is far from the peak of PS3 gaming or innovation. Indeed, I'd probably use it as an example of lack of innovation -- beyond it's graphics, it is just a damned solid FPS.

The PS3 Eye is almost unused! I could imagine incedible cool games, bringing the Eyetoy stuff from PS2 to a next level? Two PS3 Eye as combo could capture 3 dimensional movements. Imaginate Wii Boxing style Game with full 3D Capture of the movements of the player! Street Fighter with full body capture....

I agree, the Eye could be used more. That said, have you played Eye of Judgement? It's a collectible card game on console. That, to me, reeks of innovation. It may not be to your tastes, but isn't that the problem with innovating? Some people may not like the new stuff, or find it too gimmicky. Doesn't change the fact that EoJ, as a single game, is pretty much unique as an experience on consoles.

Where are the new ideas? The Games are always so linear, you can follow only ONE clear path in the Game worlds, no free terrain to move whereever you want...CoD WaW are examples... I want a map where I can choose my own path...

Pardon? Have you played any sandbox games? Further, what you describe is hardly a new idea, games have been doing what you suggest for a long, long time. As a few examples of titles this gen, consider GTA4, InFAMOUS, Assassin's Creed, and Burnout Paradise; however, trust me, there are many, many more.

Where is a Super "ELITE" Space Simulation Game (you remember from Commodore 64) which you play online... or the XWING vs TIE-FIGHTER Star Wars Games where we can play online together and attack Star Destroyers, or defend them?

Somebody remembers Broderbonds "The Castles of Dr. Creep" on the C64? This could be an incredible cool online game, like LBP today.

Again, this isn't a new idea, it's just a genre you would like to play. However, I will concede that PS3, as of yet, doesn't have a big space simulation game. Then again, that's not exactly much of a surprise given the age of the achine and the relative lack of such titles on consoles.

As for Broderbonds "The Castles of Dr. Creep": I have no idea what that is.

But what do we get? FPS, FPS and maybe a 3PS...

However, this is complete nonsense. Yes, we have FPS are two (or even three), but we also have much more. Beyond the innovations (well, the lift from Japanese arcades) such as EoJ, we have SRPGs presented in a new, innovative way with Valkyria Chronicles. We have photography-safari simulations with Afrika, where you can travel about in balloons, jeeps, on foot or whatever in a massive version of a savannah and the like. We have the gaming awesomness of MGS4. We have dragon flying with Lair. We Extreme Racing with MotorStorm. We have the user-generate joys of LBP. We have awesome air-to-air combat (and much more) with Warhawk. In fact, we have a whole bunch of titles taking new directions, especially when we turn to the PSN. Then things just get cray.

Noby Noby Boy (I challenge you to find any game like this). Flower (again, a unique experience relying on SIXAXIS alone). Pixel Junk Monsters (a new twist on Tower Defence), and Eden (a new twist on platforming). The Last Guy (another genre-mincing game -- kinda like Pac-man on acid). Linger in Shadows (an interactive movie, perhaps?). LocoRoco CocoReccho (an interactive screen saver). SIREN (an episodic game). Super Rub'A'Dub (as another example of a purely SIXAXIS game). EyeCreate (a free video-editing suit for the Eye). Elefunk (an engineering game). PAIN (catapult people into everything for points). Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battlecars (I think the title says it all). I could go on, but I'm getting bored, here.

And I've not even mentioned big games like Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted, or Resistance, or Sony favourites such as Everybody's Golf, SingStar, or GT, or major updates such as WipEout HD, SOCOM, or Time Crisis 4, or RPGs such as White Knight Chronicles, Demon's Souls, or Disgaea, or the many other exclusives. And need I move on to multi-plats?

Really, you can attack Sony for many things, but attacking their current spread of games is growing increasingly unwise, especially when you look at what we know is on the horizon (and we only know a small part of the bigger picture).

Oh, and there's Heavenly Sword, and that's awesome; I don't care what anyone else thinks of the game.

How about you answer this post, OP? Oh wait, it killed your little flamebait thread so you chose to ignore it. Boo ooh.

well there's LBP, Eye of Judgment...and that's all. rest of the games are just bumped up versions of ps2 games with different names or numbers after the title. i'm really waiting for Eyepet though - this could be really fun experience.

of course u would say this when u have bought nearly every Wii game this gen and not much else.

dude have you even looked at my game collection(well i didn't add all the games i played and owned, but still there's about 40% of them)? i have a lot of psp, gc and ps2 games(i bought both psp and ps2 last year). also i played a lot of ps360 games(i even owned 360 for a short amount of time) and so far i can tell that ps360 games are just simply last gen games but a little bigger and better looking - well not every time since GTA4 don't have the biggest enviroment and Heavenly Sword don't have the most enemies on screen compared to last gen games but still. so while most games are simply bigger and better looking they are still been-there-done-that games.

plus some of them turned into worse - horror games on ps360, advanture games that turned to 3rd person shooters, play time and replay value gone down a lot and developers don't spend that much time on delivering enjoyable single player experience like it was before cause now it's all about the multiplayer action(which is sad for me).

Wait...was this thread a disguised attempt at dumping on Killzone2?
I mean for a ps3 owner to have missed the likes of LBP, Flower, Flow, SIXAXIS (Regardless of how good you think it is) Uncharted and that's just the tip of a growing iceberg, is quite an eyebrow raiser...anyhoo whatever, the ps3 gives me all the innovations I need, sorry you don't feel the same way.

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Xbox One: What are you doing Dave?

The statement may be untrue but the perception certainly is not. Why sony filling in these gaps in its library should be derised is mostly down to fanboyism in my opinion.
