The technology that MS bought is very different from the Eyetoy. The Eyetoy is pretty much just a webcam with software for recognizing objects and motion. The Z-cam basically scans the room with infrared light to get a three dimensional impression of objects in front of it ('Z' as in depth, something the Eyetoy isn't capable of recognizing), then mixes that 3D model with a visual camera to add color and possibly aid in identifying objects and motion.
The big question in my mind is how affordable MS can make this tech. It's pretty cool, but how much will it add to the cost of the next Xbox?
