"Are there many people who would like to play with Japanese voices?”" Yes ffs!

No.

Come on. Of all the millions of copies an Xbox 360 version of FFXIII might sell, I doubt if there would be 100,000 prospective buyers that would voluntarily play through the title in Japanese if the option was offered.

dude english voiceover suck in almost every japanese game. they not only usually voiced by actors who just don't get it or are like actors on crime scene reconstruction tv shows - their voice just don't match personality of the character. not to mention that when we have english dubbing in japanese game we also have different story lines and dialogues that sounds corny, weird and unreal like in 70' or 80' tv series. look at X-Edge trailers - they not only butchered the game with bad english voice actors but also changed completely their dialogues that are really bad(it sounds like it was written by the old 90210 tv show screenplay writters). also look at Mana Khemia game - same thing, but voiceacting is even more annoying that i simply turned off ingame sound completely. the only english dub that ever worked was in Ghost in the Shell anime series and movies.

Agreed. The dubs for that show were awesome, in English, German, whatever.

Well, if the English dub of FFXIII is anything like FFXII, I'll be using it. FFXII had exceptional voice acting, I thought.

All I saw was "we're thinking about just releasing it in English"

That better not be the case for BOTH versions. Otherwise, it's already clear that the 360 version is "holding back" the PS3 version

They could just add this later via DLC, like in FIFA

But war... war never changes

I watch anime in Japanese even when the English dubs are available.

"even when the english dubs are availible" would imply that Japanese dubs>English dubs.

e.g I play my PS3 even when PSN is down

of course they are - let's start with the fact that when anime is dubbed they often change dialogues to fit in often losing sense or characteristic Protagonists sayings.

not to mention they usually soften the language because we all know that anime is only for kids:/ thanks to that many jokes are lost. plus if you have subs you can always use explanations for many things that typical non-japanese people won't understand, will simply miss it or will be confused when it's important to the story.

i would rather hear

somethin no jutsu

than

white turtle splashing water on sunny day under cherry blossoms behind grocery store technique

Well, I'm pretty sure the mainstream doesn't care for JP voices.

"Dr. Tenma, according to you, lives are equal. That's why I live today. But you must have realised it by now...the only thing people are equal in is death"---Johann Liebert (MONSTER)

"WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler

For movies/TV I almost always prefer subtitles to dubs no matter what the original language is with a few exceptions. Disney tends to do an excellent job with the Studio Ghibli stuff and I can enjoy those with the english or japanese voices, but those are an exception. Anything live action, ALWAYS subtitles.

For games it really depends on the quality of the voicework but in general I prefer to be taking in the graphics with games and not worrying about reading subs during cutscenes. Bad english dubs can definitely ruin the experience though and I'd prefer the original voices in those cases.

I do agree though that the mainstream won't care. Why do you think they still sell fullscreen movies FFS. Some people don't care that they're missing 1/3 of the movie, they just want it to fill their TV screen!  Also, if anime fans all prefered subs to dubs then there wouldn't be dubbed versions included would there?

I don't think this will affect the 360 sales at all..It is expected that they will be lower than the PS3 regardless

But the PS3 version will have both english and Japanese, right?

They said that both versions will be indentical so I doubt it personally.
