I hate this whole Microsoft is using it's money and bully boy tactis to beat down Sony. As if Sony is a small company. They're a multi billion dollar conglomerate! Remember what Sony's money did to Sega? Paybacks a bitch.

What did Sony's money do? If I remember correctly poor business skills and idiotic development costs are what ran SEGA into the ground

Well, that's what run Sega's past consoles into the ground.  Dreamcast was actually their best console and was doing well (comperatively to the Sega Saturn and 32x).  But PS2 came out and well...that was that.

Would Sega have lasted even if PS2 wasn't so successful?  Probably not next to consoles like XBOX and GC (which both would have done even better without the PS2 there).  But the fact remains that the PS2s monumental success pushed Sega out of the Console business.

No it was dismal failures of the Saturn and SEGA add-ons that killed the dreamcast. If SEGA never had pushed for those Add ons(Which released what 6 months before the Saturn?) and just went straight to the Saturn they would probably still be here. Hell if they didn't kill the Saturn early they would be here and in a much better place

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

1. I don't work for either company
2. I don't own stocks in either company
3. Both consoles have a large enough install base and a good game library that both will be fine this generation
4. I own both consoles

So the answer is NO, it's not important to me at all.

Sega had issues with split management between North America, which had success with the Genesis, and the Japanese management that had their own ideas.  And then Sega also had success elsewhere with the Master System.  They had too many platforms, and Sony pretty much did a FUD factor on Sega, and did moneyhat to lock things down.

As time has gone on, Sony forgot its roots with the original Playstation, and managed to make bad decisions on its own.  And Nintendo has chugged along, and was lucky to nail the whole waggle thing.

For me it's very important that the X360 beats the PS3 in the console sales war.

sony never had to money had, nintendo was a prick and their "dream team" plus all the locks third party had, sega was already in big hole after saturn.

sony was top dog for more than 10 years and there wwasn't a single article,  of them offering money for timed exclusive, actually with games RE4 got them later.

at most sony fund the title completely, and it the game was a success bought the whole studio.

Uh...Sony never had a plan from the beginning though.  They basically cut ties with Nintendo (who they were developing the Playstation with) and just launched the Playstation by themselves.  Its not as if they forgot their roots.  Its more like the original Playstation got popular based on the tride and true method any other system does.  Its games.  Which early hits such as Suikoden, Castlevania: SotN, Twisted Metal and Resident Evil made it a hit.  And Sony was along for the ride to rake in the dough.

Sony hasn't shown any real understanding of good management when it comes to running a gaming console.  They just had a ton of good third party support and basically the games sold their system.  That's why the fallout was so drastic with PS3.

Six upcoming games you should look into:

To me if sony beats MS that shows consumer reliabilty back in sony, and sony try to to keep that up and more Good products that they've had in the past 20 years.

If all goes well PS4 could be the next PS2 and that had so much diversity, something for everyone.

And it wasn't a crude monopoly because they gave you so much quality and Variety.
Oh how I miss 6th Gen

Honestly, do JRPG makers even realize how hard it is to save the world? That shit is impossible!

The PS3 outselling the XBox 360 in console sales is the most important thing in my life.
PS3 is a far superior game console with a better games line up, it has Wifi, Blu-Ray, web browsing and so much more for the low price of $299. PS3 is also a much more reliable hardware console than the XBox 360.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - all three companies having strong showings is what's best for the industry. Competition drives innovation.

In other words, I don't care who wins...so long as it's a good fight.

You are simplyfieing something thats not simple at all. No one but the heads on both Sony and Nintendo know for sure what did happened there. The interwebs is not 100% sure about. Some says Nintendo f**** Sony, and because of that Sony entered the market out of spite. Same thing the other way around. Are you/were a big paycheck at either company at that time? I really want to know all details on how the PS1 come to be.

And in regarding to good management, a company cannot win 2 generations, selling 100+ million consoles on both iterations without that. Well, at least I would like to believe not, because no one is that lucky, or shoudnt be. And Sony did many mistakes with the PS3, mistakes not commited with the PS1 and 2, the more important/worst one, was the price.
