Ive never been a star trek fan at all and know very little about its mythology and story history. Still, i gave it a shot this friday in imax format...it was a blast from beginning to end. Although i lack knowledge of the original actors portrayal of the characters i believe this movie was brilliantly casted. The characters bared a strong likeness for the most part to the originals and the chemistry between them was palpable for the whole ensemble overall. And the trekkies in attendance cheered nostalgic moments i presumed, since the moments were odd to cheer for.

Star wars hasnt come out with a good movie in a number of years and although it still reigns supreme in the pop culture world, Star Trek is making it's bid for a comeback. Are star wars days at number 1 numbered I'm a star wars fan and love the whole franchise but this new reboot movie for star trek captured me and, i never thought id say this: I'm now a fan.

Well $388 million to go. And those are American numbers. Worldwide Star Wars did almost $800 million.

And that doesn't even account for the ticket price inflation, if the ticket prices in 1977 where what they are today Star Wars would have grossed 1.2 billion in America alone.

Star Trek is definalty 'in' right now

it will never reach the kinda success Star Wars did though, that was a cultural phenomenon, Star Trek is meant for the small screen.

(bare in mind i have yet to see the new Star Trek film)

the less said about the clone wars, the better imo

the above is just my opinion, but for me, i prefer Star Trek, but film wise, the original Star Wars trilogy is neck and neck with my 3 fave Star Trek films!

Empire is leaps and bounds better then any of the Star Trek films, but i agree the new trilogy is awful.

I'm a star wars fan, i just became a star trek fan on friday. The movie sold it very well. And ur missing my question entirely. I'm not speaking about box office performance, i'm speaking about cultural status, popularity etc. The star wars legion in numbers vs. the star trek legion in numbers. Obviously right now star wars is head honcho, but do u think star trek has taken some strides toward taking the crown and if so, do u believe star trek will eventually replace star wars as the number 1 sci-fi franchise in the world?
