Ive never been a star trek fan at all and know very little about its mythology and story history. Still, i gave it a shot this friday in imax format...it was a blast from beginning to end. Although i lack knowledge of the original actors portrayal of the characters i believe this movie was brilliantly casted. The characters bared a strong likeness for the most part to the originals and the chemistry between them was palpable for the whole ensemble overall. And the trekkies in attendance cheered nostalgic moments i presumed, since the moments were odd to cheer for.
Star wars hasnt come out with a good movie in a number of years and although it still reigns supreme in the pop culture world, Star Trek is making it's bid for a comeback. Are star wars days at number 1 numbered 
I'm a star wars fan and love the whole franchise but this new reboot movie for star trek captured me and, i never thought id say this: I'm now a fan.
