why would MS be paying money for this?  they don't own the i.p. Epic does, all they did was publish the game.  The deal for the movie is between epic and New Line (Warner Bros) and has nothing to do with MS. 

I think the Rock would be a good Dom, but honestly, I think they need to change the Marcus character to be more human, so the Rock would be good if they did that.

With the game, they make marcus silent with a cheasy one liner here or there so the player can project themselves into the player and make it seem like they are part of the story.  This works really well for a video game in which you are interacting with your enviroment and controlling the characters in your own way.  However, with film the audience are merely observers looking in on a story, characters need a lot more depth because you aren't the ones shaping the story, the director is.

So, if they end up casting the Rock, I think that is a good sign that they are doing what they need to do to make his character viewable for cinema.  There may be better actors, but The Rock can pull of some awesome action sequences which is what this movie will be about, so yeah, good cast.

I prefer when movies don't have big celebrities. I mean Watchmen was fantastic and I didn't recognize anyone in that movie except the midget in prison.

Also The Rock should play God of War. That makes sense to me.

edit: or Vin Diesel. Those guys are pretty much interchangeable.

As a Gears fan, this sounds absolutely awful. Not just the rock to star as Marcus but the entire idea of a film. I think that there is tons of room....

I think the movie will be about as good as the DOOM movie and by that I mean not at all. What could they possibly do with the movie to make it good? Video game movies suck for a reason. What is plausible in a game just isn't so with a movie. Trying to shape a game into a movie, exspecially one worth any merit, is harder then you think. I don't even think the mgs movie will be great cinema, and I'm the hugest fanboy of that series. The only video game movie I really have any hope of turning out to be a great movie is the Bioshock movie because I believe it will be easier to transfer the source material into a great, smart and cinematic script, and that it can be visually spectacular and frightening and that the director of the pirates trilogy won't have a problem getting proper funding to make it come together.

Big muscular men with big guns and cheesy dialouge don't make good movies anymore, that was the late 80's early 90's. It's still damn great as a video game though! :D

 

The resident Evil Movies did not suck...Sure the story was not from the games plot but all the right elements where there...

I think Mr Hayter would Beg to differ

Predator (1) and the Terminator Movies are just as watchable now as they were back then

I dare you Micheal Bay would not be able to pull it off

umh I like the Rock.... but I preffer him in comical roles. Same as I prefered Arnold in his commical movies.
Action movies with him are too....fake/predictable?

Well unless they make it comic/action, that would be fun (but not fitting to gears much).
