Perfect choice I think. Dwayne Johnson is a spectacular actor. He can pull off Marcus's personality well. Bad ass while having some humor. That's what Johnson does perfectly.
And god if Mickey Rourke plays in this film, I will pass it up instantly, he is an awful actor.
The best place for the Rock is back on the WWE. He already had his video game shot a Doom and that didn't turn out all that well.

Vin has already played marcus in the chronicles of riddick. Just put an armor suit on him and wala.

I think that Gilbert Gottfried would make a great Marcus.
As a Gears fan, this sounds absolutely awful. Not just the rock to star as Marcus but the entire idea of a film. Sure the entire lack of any type of real story is fine in a video game where you are absorbed in playing the game, but turning that into a movie is going to fail no matter how well of a script you have, the calibur of director or actors. There just isn't enough room to make something cinematically great with what's there to work with given the template laid out by the source material.

My guess is that this would be the prequel to the games.
So it might not be all that bad.
